Is Angel Slayer only available in Normal mode?

I just unlocked it and even when Im playing chapters on hard, if I load angel slayer, it defaults back to normal.

Is there a way to change Angel Slayer to hard mode or is normal just the default and it gets harder as you go along?

I just dont like normal...enemies attacks are just too obvious and slow.

Well, you start on normal and after certain number of floors it'll switch to hard and then infinite climax. You just have to beat the stages tll you get to hard.
