Gun Question - Scope

So is it possible to have a variable scope? On all the guns that have a scope i can pick people off from a distance but it its close quarters I am screwed as the x4 scope zooms in too much. In all the past games you could zoom in a little and then a little more. Is that not possible in this game? Kind of sucks because you have to choose how to attack each mission beforehand. I am I missing something?

Doesn't look like it. Just use your pistol.

You can upgrade the Paladin so you can switch your gear during the mission when you find those weapon ammo boxes. You can't do it on realistic, though.
