Kenny Florian debuted at MW on TUF. He fought successfully at WW but was best at LW. He couldn't win the belt against BJ and became a skeleton who tried to grapple and was punished by Aldo.

Connor is doing the reverse and is successful. He ko'd Aldo who embarrassed Florian like he was nothing. Connor won the belt that Florian would have likely won if BJ wasn't around, one a call out circus show. Connor wanted to he could probably get a shot at the WW title simply because it's a money generator and is safe as Connor would be 25lbs above his weight class so his rep won't be damaged just like the loss to Diaz was overlooked in the grand scheme of things. If he wins the WW title, is only logical to assume he'd run for the MW belt.

It happens in boxing all the time. I understand weight classes are different but Connor would be doing this off of generating money and a legacy not trying to pad a resume with title defenses, he likely won't defend the belt and the UFC would be stupid to strip him if he wins 3 consecutive belts because the hype would be too big.

I feel happy for Connor because normally like Florian did you drop weight to be successful. Florian showed that a natural LW could be successful at MW but not exactly stellar. BJ vs Machida showed that skill helped make up for a size difference and overall a LW could realistically fight a man over 30lbs bigger and not be ko'd instantly. Connor has a frame to let him fight successfully at WW with enough skill to compensate for the lack of muscle. The fact that Florian went down 4 weight classes and couldn't get a belt, yet Connor is just picking up fights and finishing champions, it must make Florian a bit envious. He'll probably interview him on it should Connor book a fight with Woodley.

Not sure why Kenny gets thrown under the bus here, but whatever. Conor's next fight could be Mayweather. They both really want it to happen and Conor just took a big step towards it by getting his boxing license.
