Character selection

I am thinking about getting War in the North and in one of the trailers I saw a female ranger elf and was wondering if you can make that character selection, because in all of the lets plays I've seen no one has made that character selection is it because they cannot or because they choose not to?

The female character is playable as Loremaster. You can customize her to look like an elf. I take turns playing each of the characters. I love this game!
