Can someone teach me how to use my created fighter in other modes

I dont see my created fighter in any modes like exhibition or tournaments? I have used him in create a fighter career mode, but that is all so far. Do I have to get him to a certain level before I can use him in exhibitions and tournaments, or am I just doing something wrong? Thanks, seems like a simple thing, but I dont see how to do it in this menu system for the xbox 360

In exhibition(or any other mode) just scroll over on the dpad. Same way you select Pride fighters and dlc fighters.
