If you can put up with the story being slightly above average as far as RPGs go, then Sea of Stars will more than deliver with its unique combat, colorful characters, and gorgeous world

While it's certainly above average by the standard set by most games, Pikmin 4 fails to live up to the rest of the series. It's nothing that hasn't already been done better in other Pikmin games. And while it doesn't matter as much to some people, the removal of any kind of time limit makes me seriously question the point of having a day cycle at all. If there're no consequences for taking 300 days to beat the game instead of 30, at that point just make it a collectathon like Mario Odyssey where I can stay for as long as I like collecting stuff.

It doesn't offer much in the way of new things for fans of the original, but Super Mario RPG is still a great play if you haven't tried it yet. It's got a great energy, and makes me pretty nostalgic for the other golden era Square Enix RPGs like Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI.

Sin and Punishment is the sort of game that makes you think, "How was that my fault?" More often than not deaths can be attributed to awkward controls. But the few times the game is able to provide a challenge rather than frustration make it decently worth playing.

There are some slight quirks in the controls, but the concept is unique, the music is great, and that's really all you need for a good rhythm game.

I really wanted to love Ori, but a drop dead gorgeous art style doesn't make up for the lousy combat, the poor world layout, the bad balancing, etc.
It feels like the developers took a regular 2D platformer and disguised it as a Metroidvania. Let's just say there's a reason Steam separates 2D platformers and Metroidvanias. While your typical indie Metroidvania may also be 2D, the good ones are usually about exploration. And in Ori the exploration is so necessary that there are two abilities that you can end the game without. No need for sequence breaking. They can be entirely avoided because you don't need them. And that alone is really telling of how great the exploration is, which is to say, not very great at all.

To be completely honest, if you're reading reviews of Spiritfarer instead of playing the game, then you're wasting your time.
Spiritfarer offers a story that can only be told through the medium of video games. It's got a good gameplay loop, a story that uses subtlety to its advantage, and a world that's just a joy to be in.

Despite being a good experience overall, Tears of the Kingdom fails to improve on the problems Breath of the Wild had. It also adds new issues with all the brand new mechanics. It's a lot easier to recommend this game to someone who hasn't played Breath of the Wild. I wouldn't say it isn't worth playing at all if you've already played Breath of the Wild, but the reused content is more than apparent. The overworld being reused is just as much of an annoyance as it had the potential to be, and the underground is so empty and devoid of stuff worth doing. The sky islands are few and far between, but ultimately end up being my favorite areas to explore. The story wasn't bad, but it wasn't good. This was the same with Breath of the Wild, but in this game there's a whole lot more of it.

Hard to say something about this game that hasn't already been said. The gunplay isn't that great. It's never horrible, though it can get to a point of tedium. The writing is the main selling point. It's clever, and knows how to really make moments stick. The whole thing feels like a critique on the obvious hero complex that most shooters unknowingly portray.

Hard to call it a masterpiece, but Metroid Prime is still a great game. The closer you get to the end, the more the annoyances start piling up. The map isn't huge but fast travel would have helped a lot. Enemies are incredibly hard to avoid, necessitating combat even when Samus has enough cans of whoopass to feed a small nation. But the environmental storytelling is some of the best, and (aside from some kinks) is a very well designed game.

Here for a good time not a long time. They really ought to put that on the back of the box, because even if the game doesn't take long to complete the impression it makes is so strong you might just want to play it again. By the time I was rolling up entire cities, the silliness of the situation had entirely gone over my head because of how much I was enjoying everything. The controls don't always work as intended, but it's worth checking out.

Movement isn't as technical as Mario 64, but the level design makes it feel good regardless. The visuals and soundtrack elevate this game to a whole other level. Unlike a lot of 3D platformers, you're heavily encouraged to do everything the game has to offer. Nothing ever feels like filler, or that it didn't matter. The devs put a ton of care into making each minute just as fun as the last, and I can't really say that about most modern games.
