Moving on From Hellboy
Harbour says that he got a pat on the back from the film's producers regarding his performance as Hellboy but hasn't heard anybody bring up the idea of a sequel."I think the idea is to move on," Harbour said. "The producers spoke to me just saying, 'Great job,' they really liked what I did, but I haven't heard anything about a sequel, and I'm not hanging my hat on anything like that."
Harbour's Hellboy is a reboot of the movie franchise that once starred Ron Perlman. It was released theatrically in dozens of territories around the world in April and has amassed about $40 million at the box office so far. That wouldn't be too bad if there wasn't a $50 million production budget to cover and millions more in marketing costs.
While the beginning may be the end for a new movie franchise, the Hellboy character isn't going away any time soon. Dark Horse Comics continues to run stories about the character. The most recent issue, Hellboy and the B.P.R.D.: The Beast of Vargu, was released on June 19 with more comics slated for release in August and September. We recently talked about how rare it is to see a creator-controlled comic book series like Hellboy thrive.
Hellbent on Hellboy
A Hellboy TV series was also rumored to be in development but was debunked by creator Mike Mignola. In IGN's review of the new Hellboy movie, we said "the return of Big Red to the silver screen is anything but a welcome one or a worthy successor to the original films." Of course, there's always Guillermo del Toro's Hellboy and Hellboy 2: The Golden Army. Petey Oneto is a freelance writer for IGN who went and saw the new Hellboy in theaters and had to get up to a new seat during the trailers when the dude a few seats next to him was chewing nachos louder than the damn IMAX speakers.
