Amid concerns about inflation and rising prices, Amazon is stepping up its game when it comes to offering shoppers more ways to save.

According to CNBC, “Amazon hosted a closed-door event for sellers in China, where it presented plans for a new budget storefront that features low-cost apparel, home goods and other items.”

Taking on its Rivals

The new section for Amazon would feature low-priced fashion and lifestyle products. It’s part of Amazon’s plan to compete with e-commerce sites like Temu and Shein. The new discount store also would let Chinese sellers ship directly to American consumers. It’s not yet clear when the storefront would debut, but CNBC suggested Amazon plans to start accepting products this fall.

If you’re a discount shopper, this news about Amazon is good for a couple of reasons. First, you’ll have a new option to find items at discounted prices. Additionally, and perhaps even more importantly, it will likely put more pressure on competitors to find new ways to save you money.

According to Fox News, Amazon is launching the new store to offer customers a great selection, lower prices and an increased degree of convenience. Here are a few ways the new store from Amazon could rival Dollar Tree prices.

1. Beating the Competition

First, competition is fierce these days when it comes to offering discounts to get your dollars. Stores like Walmart and Target are offering savings this summer on popular items. It seems Amazon will take a similar tack.

2. Focusing on Dollars

Second, as you know if you’re a Dollar Tree shopper, prices have been on the rise there. Since you’ll find items for $5 and $7 at Dollar Tree, it’s likely the new Amazon discount store will have prices equal to those (or even lower) to attract customers.

3. Matching the Selection

Finally, you’re likely to see similar items at Amazon’s new store as you might at Dollar Tree. Since Amazon is trying to capture market share (likely in an aggressive fashion), expect to see household items and some low-cost apparel among the initial offerings.
