The world of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth might be gorgeous to behold, but there are numerous dangers lurking in every corner. Some of these are unique targets that you have to bring down to end their threat. Here's our guide on Classified Intel and Dangerous Fiends in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Classified Intel and Dangerous Fiends guide
The Classified Intel in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth refers to Dangerous Fiends, unique monsters that are native to each region. You won't know where they are from the get-go. Instead, you have to reveal their location by interacting with all six Lifesprings in the zone. Once you do this, Chadley will inform you that he's found a beast's lair.
If you're up for a challenge, head over to that location. Then, press and hold the Triangle button to spawn the beast. Make sure you use the Assess ability/materia to see its weakness, and be ready for a tough bout. Likewise, don't forget to use Synergy Abilities/Limit Breaks and various summoned deities. Should you succeed, you'll receive that creature's special material, which can be used for all sorts of Item Transmuter blueprints (some are even required to complete side quests).
Grassland Classified Intel: Winged Lacertilian of Yore - Quetzalcoatl
The first Dangerous Fiend in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is the Quetzalcoatl. This winged terror's lair is in the western portion of the Grassland (i.e. the part with the rocky crags). Follow the Mako Reactor pipes past the Remnawave Tower and go through the opening, then swing back east until you arrive at an arena-like area.
Quetzalcoatl encounter tips
The Quetzalcoatl swiftly moves around the battlefield, unleashing powerful attacks whenever it switches between grounded and airborne state. Tifa and Barret are good teammates to have for this bout due to their aerial juggle and long-range shots, respectively. Likewise, you should use the Blizzard spell, as well as the Shiva summon, due to this boss' ice element weakness.
Junon Classified Intel: The Whisperer in the Darkness - Mindflayer
After ransacking the city of Baldur's Gate (just kidding), the Mindflayer arrives in the region of Junon. It's found in the southern portion, which you can reach by swimming toward the shipwrecks.
Mindflayer encounter tips
The Mindflayer isn't weak to any particular element, and it has a couple of nasty abilities. The first is Psychotic Break, which temporarily stuns a character. The second is Astral Apprehension, which binds a character for a prolonged period. The best way to deal with this foe is by using Synergy Abilities as often as possible. Synergy Abilities pressure it, helping you trigger a stagger sequence.
Corel Classified Intel: Heavy Lies the Crown - Tonberry King
Among the Dangerous Fiends in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, one to certainly watch out for is the Tonberry King. You can find it in the southeastern portion of Corel Desert. Note that you visit Corel during Chapter 6: Fool's Paradise. However, you're only able to traverse the desert area at the start of Chapter 9: The Planet Stirs.
Tonberry King encounter tips
What makes the Tonberry King extremely terrifying is that its knife attack instantly kills a character that it hits. The creature and its ability has become a meme in and of itself over the years. Still, this particular battle is also important, as it's part of a long side quest arc. You can learn more in our Saga of the Seaside Inn guide.
Gongaga Classified Intel: The Sultan of Stench - Great Marlboro
Another series staple, the Great Marlboro, can be fought in the region of Gongaga. Its lair is all the way to the south, fairly close to the coast. Note that you have to complete the Gongaga main story arc. Doing so grants you access to the region's Chocobos, which can jump higher and skate around via mushroom launch pads and giant tree branches, respectively.
Great Marlboro encounter tips
Upon beginning the battle against the Great Marlboro, you might notice that it's not doing a lot. Its Bad Breath ability isn't much of a threat either. However, Bad Breath's effects ramp up as time wears on, eventually causing severe status effects that completely debilitate your party members.
To survive, you need to keep using Ice element spells, abilities, and summons. Moreover, you need to strike and destroy its mouth whenever it attempts to cast bad Breath (or its higher-tier variants), since this will interrupt the spell. There's a small window of opportunity due to the casting speed, so make sure you've prepped your attacks.
Cosmo Canyon Classified Intel: The Wyvern Awoken - Jabberwock
The Jabberwock's lair is in the southern part of the Cosmo Canyon region. The main problem you might have is locating all the Lifesprings. One, in particular, is all the way to the north, and it requires you to follow the sloping path and various Gliding Ranges to reach a plateau.
Jabberwock encounter tips
Jabberwock's thick hide gets tougher whenever it casts Gorgon Shield. However, this also presents an opportunity. If you deal enough damage or use Fire element spells while Gorgon Shield is active, its barrier will be removed. This will also apply pressure, causing it to stagger soon enough.
Nibel Classified Intel: Avian Tyrant - King Zu
The King Zu of the Nibel region is in the westernmost section of the map. Its arena is an open area within the cluster of islands. This can only be reached once you have the Nibel Chocobo, which causes a stream of water that allows it to hover in mid-air.
King Zu encounter tips
The King Zu's abilities can be quite frustrating, since it can create tornadoes and flaming encirclements. What you need to watch out for, though, is Swan Song. While it's casting this spell, be sure to target its left and right wings. Crippling its wings will interrupt the spell, while also pressuring it for a timely stagger.
