The Witcher developer CD Projekt Red has spoken out to congratulate From Software on Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree expansion breaking a record set by the Polish studio.

Shadow of the Erdtree's generally strong reviews have lifted the expansion to become the highest-rated expansion for a role-playing game ever. The Witcher 3's Blood and Wine expansion previously had that honor. "But Elden Ring gets to wear the crown now," CD Projekt Red said.

"Congratulations to the entire team at From Software on their stellar work!" the studio said.

Shadow of the Erdtree, which is out now, takes players to the Realm of Shadow as they take on a variety of new bosses. The expansion also adds new gear, abilities, weapons, and armor.

"Following in the footsteps of Miquella, the once tarnished legions who rose to Elden Lord may now need to leave their grace behind, as they enter a sinister new chapter and unravel the dark side of the Elden Ring story," reads a line from the expansion's description.
