Watch Dogs Movie Finds Another Lead With Hunger Games Star - Report

Ubisoft has been working on a Watch Dogs movie for more than a decade, and it now seems to be finally coming together. Deadline reports that Tom Blyth, who starred in the Hunger Games prequel The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, will play a lead. He joins Sophia Wilde, who was previously linked to the Watch Dogs movie.

Mathieu Turi (The Deep Dark, Hostile, and assistant director on Inglourious Basterds) is directing Watch Dogs from a script by Christie LeBlanc (Oxygen). Victoria Bata (Lessons in Chemistry) also contributed to the script.

The Watch Dogs movie was originally set up at Sony Pictures but has now changed hands to New Regency. Turi is also developing a TV series based on the Plague Tale games.

Ubisoft previously launched a poll asking fans who should play the lead role of Aiden Pearce in the Watch Dogs movie, with fans calling for Mission Impossible star Tom Cruise. Beyond Blyth and Wilde, there is no word yet on who else might appear in the Watch Dogs film, or when it might release.

The Watch Dogs game series debuted in 2014 (more than a year after the movie was announced), with sequels Watch Dogs 2 (2016) and Watch Dogs Legion (2020) following. The series used places like Chicago, San Francisco, and London as settings across the three installments, and the open-world games feature futuristic hacking and gadgetry.

Ubisoft has not announced any new Watch Dogs games. The company's next big event is the Ubisoft Forward showcase on June 10, where announcements about Assassin's Creed Shadows, XDefiant, and Star Wars Outlaws are expected.
