The Two Newest Super Mario Games For Nintendo Switch Get Nice Discounts
Super Mario RPG and Super Mario Bros. Wonder are on sale at Walmart.
Who would have thought that a turn-based RPG set in the Mario Bros. universe could be so captivating? In 1996, Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars was a pleasant surprise, and decades later, the game still holds up quite well, as evidenced by the faithful Nintendo Switch edition released late last year. Discounts have been rare since launch, but right now you can get Super Mario RPG for 25% off at Walmart, which drops the price to $45. If it sells out at Walmart, you can get Super Mario RPG for $46 on eBay or $49 at Amazon. For a more traditional platforming Mario experience, you can pick up Super Mario Bros. Wonder for $49 at Walmart or $50 at Amazon.
In case you missed it the first time in the '90s--or last year--Super Mario RPG is a colorful adventure starring the iconic plumber, his friends, and even Bowser. One of the final big first-party games of the SNES era, the remake retains the gameplay DNA of the original and spruces it up with sharp visuals and minor quality-of-life changes.

This is a very approachable RPG as well, so if you're looking for something to fun to enjoy with your family, Super Mario RPG is a great choice.
"Super Mario RPG is one of the wildest games in Nintendo's catalog. Loaded with eccentric characters like a Santa-esque big bad, random bouts of dark comedy--Toad cosplayers tickle as a form of torture and a four-eyed dog swallows you whole and comments on the taste--and moment-to-moment gameplay that is as raucous as it is eclectic, Super Mario RPG memorably capped off the SNES lifecycle," Steven Petite wrote in GameSpot's Super Mario RPG review. "Fittingly, the new Switch version is one of the weirdest remasters I've ever played. Its surface-level appearance as a modern Mario game is merely a facade. Relentlessly faithful to the original, Super Mario RPG is a bold and largely successful experiment."
As for Super Mario Bros. Wonder, the charming side-scrolling platformer added some inventive new features to the classic formula. It's a brilliant Mario game whether you're playing solo or alongside friends and family. It earned an impressive 9/10 in our Super Mario Bros. Wonder review.
Though Super Mario RPG and Super Mario Bros. Wonder just launched a few months ago, we're quickly approaching the release of the next Switch game starring Mario and pals. The upcoming Mario vs. Donkey Kong remake releases on February 16 and is available to preorder now for $50. In March, Princess Peach will return to center stage in Princess Peach: Showtime.
