The Fantastic Four Reboot Is Set In An Alternate Marvel Universe

Kevin Feige confirms some fan theories about how The Fantastic Four reboot fits into the MCU.

Earlier this year, Marvel confirmed the cast of The Fantastic Four with a charming piece of artwork that featured Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach in character in a retro '60s style. That was the first clue that the reboot film wasn't going to take place in the present. Now, Marvel's Kevin Feige has gone a step further and confirmed that The Fantastic Four won't even take place in the regular MCU that we've been following since 2008.

Feige was a guest on the first episode of the official Marvel podcast, and he revealed that the film is set in the '60s in an alternate Marvel universe that we haven't seen before. He also pointed out that the second promotional image, featuring the Human Torch, included a version of New York City that never existed in our reality.

"There was a cityscape in the corner of that image and there was a lot of smart people who noticed that cityscape didn't look exactly like the New York that we know and the New York that existed in the '60s in our world," said Feige. "And those are smart observations, I'll say."

Feige also said that The Fantastic Four is one of the upcoming projects that he's most excited about.

"I'm extremely excited by it because I think those characters are mainstays, are legendary pillars of the Marvel universe that we've never got to play with or explore in any significant way, apart from Multiverse of Madness and a few fun teases before in the way that we're doing it in that film," added Feige.

According to Feige, the film will officially start shooting in London on the Monday after Comic-Con, July 29, 2024. It will arrive in theaters nearly a year later on July 25, 2025.
