Original Resident Evil PC Re-Release Spotted, Could Be Out Very Soon

An age rating for Resident Evil on PC has been spotted online, fueling speculation that the original survival-horror game from Capcom will be released on digital storefronts soon. The game has received a rating by Europe's PEGI organization.

Resident Evil has been available on PC since 1996, as it was released on that platform physically. In the modern era, the game has not yet been available through storefronts like Steam or the Epic Games Store. But as spotted by Gematsu, this looks like it's about to change.

It's also not clear which version of Resident Evil has been rated by PEGI for a potential re-release, as there exists the original version and a director's cut with new weapon types, different item locations, and more collectible outfits. On PlayStation, Resident Evil: Director's Cut is available through the PlayStation Plus Classics library.

After the release of Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4 remakes alongside new mainline entries, Resident Evil Zero is reportedly one of two more remakes in development. Capcom confirmed last year that it was remaking more Resident Evil games, and the prequel could be joined by a reimagining of Resident Evil: Code Veronica. In the main series, there's also the still-unannounced Resident Evil 9, with rumors claiming that it could be an open-world game.

According to insider Dusk Golem, Resident Evil 9 will be built in the RE Engine and is reportedly the biggest game in the series to date. It could be announced in Fall 2024 with a 2025 release date.
