The first season of House of the Dragon didn't revisit too many of the iconic locations from Game of Thrones, since most of the story took place in King's Landing. But with the full-scale Targaryen civil war in House of the Dragon Season 2, a pair of key locations made their return in the season premiere. Now, in new behind-the-scenes videos from HBO, the creative team behind House of the Dragon is sharing their thoughts about revisiting the past.

The Season 2 premiere doesn't waste any time before bringing fans back to the North for a glimpse of Winterfell and a look beyond the Wall with the Night's Watch. Fittingly, the episode was directed by Alan Taylor, who helmed several memorable episodes of the original series. Season 2 marks a return to the franchise for Taylor, and he noted that being back at The Wall felt like coming home.

"Walking on the Wall, being surrounded by people dressed for the Night's Watch, being surrounded by Starks--that was one of the best moments," said Taylor.

Taylor and showrunner Ryan Condal were both featured in an extended behind-the-scenes video for the season premiere, which also touches on the return to Winterfell.

"This is harkening back to a simpler time," said Condal. "I wanted to go to a place where we could experience that, if only briefly. And the North just felt completely the right way to go."

House of the Dragon Season 2 will continue this Sunday, June 23 on HBO and Max.
