Borderlands Movie Clip Shows Shows Lilith's Team In Action

Claptrap nearly gets Lilith and her team killed when he picks a bad time to expel some lead.

This summer, Eli Roth is bringing Borderlands to the big screen with Cate Blanchett as Lilith, the leader of a group of outlaws who are on a mission that may determine the fate of the universe. While the film is still two months away, a new clip features the team in hot water, thanks to Claptrap. Jack Black lends his voice to Claptrap in the film, and he nearly manages to get the team killed in this preview because he just had to expel some lead from his robot body in the loudest and most obnoxious way possible.

The tone of this scene seems a lot like Suicide Squad and Guardians of the Galaxy. It also appears to be embracing comedy first, and action second. Additionally, it shows off some of the team dynamics. For example, only Tiny Tina laughs at Claptrap's antics, while Dr. Tannis annoys Roland by stealing a gun from him in the middle of a battle. This group doesn't seem to like each other very much at this point in the film. But by the end of the movie, we suspect they'll be feeling a lot closer to each other... assuming they live that long.

In addition to Blanchett and Black, the rest of the cast includes Kevin Hart as Roland, Edgar Ramírez as Atlas, Ariana Greenblatt as Tiny Tina, Florian Munteanu as Krieg, Gina Gershon as Mad Moxxi, Jamie Lee Curtis as Dr. Patricia Tannis, Bobby Lee as Larry, Olivier Richters as Krom, Janina Gavankar as Commander Knoxx, and Cheyenne Jackson as Jakobs.

Roth directed the film and co-wrote the script with Joe Crombie. Borderlands will hit theaters on August 9.
