It has been revealed that the Shamblers from The Last of Us Part 2 were supposed to have exploding bums. Talk about being toxic!
In a story first spotted by TechnClub, lead systems designer at Naughty Dog, Matthew Gallant shared a short clip of the Shambler meeting its explosive demise.
A weapon of mass destruction
The Shamblers are a fourth stage evolution of the Bloaters in The Last of Us Part 2. In the short clip from Matthew Gallant, Ellie can be seen battling with a Shambler before its backside erupts with deadly toxins. Nice!

The Shamblers have always been a grotesque form of the Cordyceps infection, but this version might have been the most disgusting yet.
