Researchers have revealed what your favourite video games characters could look like if they’d age appropriately. It goes without saying that the likes of Sonic and Mario have been around since the very early days of gaming, but haven’t aged a single day. If they were real, here’s what they might look like with that age-o-meter turned on.
Compare the Market has teamed up with Carol Holland, Professor in Ageing Research, and a 3D artist to recreate classic games characters as the age they truly are, and the results are…something.
First up we have Mario himself, and with his first appearance being a whole 40 years ago in 1981, he’d be in his sixties right about now. Here’s how Compare the Market and Holland visualises him.
Next we have CJ from GTA San Andreas. Compare the Market writes: “When Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was released in 2004, CJ was 36 years old.
“Although he’s slim and looks physically fit, at 53 years old now, he may have experienced injuries over the years, so might not be in great shape, and could also be starting to go grey in his older age.”
Here we have the one and only Lara Croft, who Compare the Market estimates to be around 46 years old, but still in fantastic shape.
“Lara will still have her famous hourglass figure and her defined facial features could have smoothed a little. She may also have grey hairs, though regular suncream application has helped keep Lara’s skin healthy while adventuring in exotic locations,” says Compare the Market.
Finally we have the oldest of the bunch, Sonic’s Dr. Eggman. Compare the Market has him down as being an incredible 80 years old. Just a bit older than Jim Carrey then? Check him out below!
