Nothern Bedrock Historic Preservation Corps Gets Some Upgrades

DULUTH, Minn.– A new location means new beginnings for this nonprofit historic preservation group.

Nothern Bedrock Historic Preservation Corps is an opportunity for young adults to get hands on learning experience. Through this nonprofit, they learn all the skills they need to help preserve and restore sites across the state. Before that is achieved, they offer the Americorps training program that gives them those tools they need. With the new site for their office, it’s a perfect time to demonstrate those learned skills.

“Right now, we’re in our project orientation phase. Where we’re going through on rotations on window restoration. Currently they’re working on some demo projects. And then hopefully if the weather cooperates, we’ll do some roofing training as well,” said Charley Langowski, NBHPC Executive Director.

Their offices are located in Duluth, as well as their sister location in Ely Minnesota. With all of that driving, their work vans became worn out overtime. Recently, thanks to Benna Ford, they upgraded to a new set of wheels.

“It’s something we’ve been thinking about for like three years. Previously we were in cargo vans, which worked really well for our needs. But they weren’t always the easiest to drive. And we really wanted to up to two vehicles per crew. We were previously just at one vehicle.” explained Langowski.

The goal for Northern Bedrock is to get plenty of experience for young adults that can be used in other jobs down the road. .
