Purr-fect Grand Opening for Wired Whisker

DULUTH, Minn. — A long awaited café has finally opened its doors in Duluth. One that looks to make a paws-itive impact for cat lovers and coffee aficionados alike.

Wired Whisker looks to act like any other café, serving coffee and sandwiches. But owner Misha Smith wanted her claws to help rescue cats become adopted. The café is split between a dining spot and a space that they call the cattery. Inside the cattery, anyone can rent out time to spend with the playful or sometimes lazy felines. Smith emphasizes that Wired Whiskers is supposed to be a stress-free and safe environment for both people and the cats.

“We’re essentially serving as an extension to our local rescues,” said Smith. “So what we’re doing is providing a space for up to ten to twelve cats. We’re allowing them to extend their reach and say yes to help more cats, and ultimately save more cats’ lives.”

Currently seven kittens occupy the cattery from Animal Allies Humane Society and Pet Haven. Wired Whiskers looks to eventually help people adopt the cats inside. But for the meantime, a 50-minute cat session starts at just $8.
