Superior Woman Receives Electric Shock At Edgewater Hotel

DULUTH, Minn. — An enjoyable day swimming at the Edgewater Hotel ended badly for a Superior mom and her daughter. The family says the two received an electric shock, hospitaliizing the mother.

The family says the mother, Heather Paquette, reached to open the gate to the outside whirlpool area and received a strong electric shock. According to her mother, Melissa Cich, the shock was so strong that Paquette could not let go of the knob. Her granddaughter then tried to get her mother’s hand off the knob, but also received a shock.

Cich says a man inside the hotel saw what was happening and came to the rescue, pushing the mother to the ground. Mother and daughter were both taken to St. Lukes hospital. The daughter was checked out and released. Heather was admitted, and remains hospitalized as of late this afternoon..

We spoke to Anne Stratioti from ZMC Hotels about the incident. She confirmed that an incident occurred but declined to provide any other information except to say an investigation has been undertaken by the company.
