The Top 6 TV Shows Coming To Netflix In July

Following

Netflix is bringing out the big guns in July, with a seriously impressive lineup of TV series set to debut or make their return this month.

The best thing about the following list is that it’s mostly brand new, original content coming to Netflix, but there’s one cult classic that makes its return to the streaming service as well.

We’ll start with that one. Let’s dive right in!

1. Lost — All 6 Seasons (July 1st)

One of the most groundbreaking TV series ever made just made its return to Netflix this month. Lost was like nothing else, and despite ending with a very controversial finale, it’s up there with shows like The Sopranos and Breaking Bad in terms of its importance to the medium. If you haven’t watched the story of Jack, Kate, Sawyer, Locke, Hurley and all the rest, or if you just want to return to the island, all six seasons are streaming now.

"I stand by the Lost finale,” the show’s creator Damon Lindelof said in an interview about the controversial episode. “It's the story that we wanted to tell, and we told it. No excuses. No apologies. I look back on it as fondly as I look back on the process of writing the whole show. And while I'll always care what you think, I can't be a slave to it anymore."

2. Star Trek: Prodigy Season 2 (July 1st)

It’s been a long, hard road for Star Trek: Prodigy, the first 3D-animated series in franchise history and one geared toward a much younger audience. While the first season got great reviews from critics and audiences, it was ultimately canceled after debuting on Paramount+ and Nickelodeon. Netflix picked the series up, re-releasing Season 1 in 2023. Now the second season finally makes its debut this July.

“Thank you to our incredible Star Trek: Prodigy fans, who championed not just a show, but a community that’s always been connected by the belief that we build a better future together,” creators Alex Kurtzman, Dan and Kevin Hageman said in a joint statement. “We set out to inspire you, but you inspired us. The team is still hard at work on the second season, and we can’t wait to share it with the amazing fans around the world.”

3. Vikings: Valhalla Season 3 (July 11th)

The sequel series to Vikings hasn’t made quite as big of a splash, and the third season will be its last. Despite having wrapped filming way back in 2022, Valhalla’s final season is only just now releasing on Netflix this month. The story takes place roughly a century after the events of Ragnar Lothbrok and his children and follows Vikings Leif, Harald, and Freydís on all-new adventures in Scandinavia and beyond.

“I am so grateful to have had three seasons to tell the stories of Leif, Harald, and Freydís. I knew from the beginning that I wanted to show the evolution of how three of the most famous Vikings became the icons we know today, and we have done just that,” co-creator and executive producer Jeb Stuart said of the third season. “I hope when the audience gets to see the new season, they’ll be excited by all the new heights that we’ve taken these heroes.” Check out the axe-and-action-packed Season 3 trailer above.

4. Exploding Kittens (July 12th)

The premise for this hilarious looking adult cartoon is pretty great: God and the Devil are both sent to Earth—in the bodies of rather tubby cats. Tom Ellis plays Godcat and Sasheer Zamata voices Devilcat. The show was created by Matthew Inman, creator of the webcomic The Oatmeal and the popular Exploding Kittens card game (and mobile game).

“I always had ambitions of turning The Oatmeal into some kind of TV series, because it's a webcomic with actual stories,” Inman said in an interview recently. “I never thought it would come from Exploding Kittens, though. I figured Exploding Kittens would always be just a game. I read an interview once with the South Park guys where they talked about how they made South Park, and then went on to make movies like BASEketball and Orgazmo. In their minds, those movies were their future, rather than some silly cartoon about kids who live in Colorado. I feel like this has been my relationship with Exploding Kittens — I discount it because it's ‘just a game,’ but every day it continues to grow. Praise our Lord and Savior Godcat for that, I suppose.”

5. Cobra Kai Season 6, Part 1 (July 18th)

The final season of the Karate Kid sequel series Cobra Kai kicks off this July, though it’s just the first in a three-part season releasing over a pretty extended period of time. The series follows the protagonist and antagonist of the film Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) as they train a new batch of karate kids—and discover new rivalries, old enmities and plenty of melodrama, comedy and hand-to-hand combat.

“There’s lots of surprises in Season 6. You’ll love it,” actor John Kove—who plays the ridiculous John Kreese—said recently. “It’s gonna be a banger,” Miguel Diaz actor Xolo Maridueña added.

6. The Dragon Prince Season 6 (July 26th)

One of my favorite animated series returns for its penultimate season on Netflix this month. The Dragon Prince is genuinely great, and fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender should absolutely give it a shot. The new season comes out just a few days before the launch of The Dragon Prince: Xadia, a new action-RPG mobile game set in the same universe as the show.

The series is created by Wonderstorm which is helmed by former Avatar: The Last Airbender lead writer Aaron Ehasz and Uncharted 3 game director Justin Richmond. Last year, Netflix surprise-dropped the fifth season after pirates took over the Dragon Prince Comic-Con presentation, so keep an eye on Wonderstorm’s Comic-Con appearance this year in case something similar happens!
