A video clip of Dua Lipa enduring a ukulele song from an aspiring musician has gone viral, with internet commentators finding the awkward moment highly relatable.

What Happened With Dua Lipa And The Ukulele Musician?

“Liam C,” a musician trying his best to be heard, managed to approach Dua Lipa during the 2024 Glastonbury music festival and convinced her to listen to his song.

“I wanted to play you 30 seconds of my song and if you like it, I just want to get your reaction,” he said. Liam later shared the full video of the interaction on Instagram, tagging Dua Lipa and thanking her for listening.

The clip makes for a difficult watch — naturally, the internet loved it.

At the beginning of the clip, Dua Lipa is cheery enough, but the listening session quickly begins to look like an endurance test. Ever the professional, Dua keeps valiantly nodding along; as the warmth disappears from her eyes and the smile strains, she just keeps nodding, silently hoping for the end.

Once the promised 30-seconds have passed, Dua assures Liam that she loved his song: “It’s so good,” Dua says, giving Liam a quick hug before darting away.

If Liam was hoping for a viral moment, he certainly got one. The monkey’s paw curled, and the internet cut the video down to Dua Lipa’s reaction and zoomed in on her face, reveling in the awkwardness.

Many commentators found Dua’s frozen smile and incessant nodding very relatable indeed, and the uncomfortable interaction quickly exploded into a meme.

Commentators compared Dua’s reaction to an unwanted flirting session, or a pointless job interview. Others jokingly called for an end to ukulele playing.

The meme even inspired fan art; X user @SummerRay immortalized the awkward moment in the style of Archie comics.

This isn’t the first time that Dua Lipa has inspired a meme, or gone viral for her lackluster reaction. Dua inspired the internet after her performance at the BRIT Awards in 2018, with one commentator writing: “I love her lack of energy, go girl give us nothing!”

The phrase has since been applied to many lackluster performances, such as Dakota Johnson’s infamous “spiders in the Amazon” line reading in Madame Web.

Dua Lipa later acknowledged the meme during an appearance on SNL, joking: “I didn’t give you nothing. I gave you the greatest meme of all time.”
