Ever since we first learned the title of Rian Johnson's next Knives Out mystery, Wake Up Dead Man, we've had a sneaking suspicion that Benoit Blanc's latest outing might be an altogether much darker affair than his last, 2022's sun soaked murder-mystery Glass Onion. And if our first look at Daniel Craig's southern sleuther in the upcoming threequel is anything to go by, then we may just be right. Taking to Twitter (fine, 'X') earlier today to commemorate his first day of shooting on the film, writer-director Johnson shared a brooding black-and-white shot of Craig's Blanc suited up, hair down, and holding onto a new hat. Check it out below;

It's certainly not giving Benoit Blanc in his stripy swimming costume living it up on a billionaire's private island now, is it? Sporting long hair, a dapper three-piece suit, and a decidedly forlorn expression, it looks like Blanc means business this third time around. And far be it from us to read too deeply into erroneous social media posts, but could Johnson's "see you on the other side" at the end of this new image's reveal suggest a supernatural slant to Benoit Blanc's newest mystery? After all, it is called Wake Up Dead Man — and presumably not just because of the gloom-heavy U2 song, either.

No plot details have been revealed for the latest Knives Out tale just yet, though it is being described as Blanc's "most dangerous mystery yet." We do know, thanks to a recent slew of casting announcements, that Josh O' Connor, Cailee Spaeny, Andrew ScottGlenn Close, Kerry WashingtonJosh Brolin, Thomas Haden Church, Jeremy Renner, and Mila Kunis will all have a part to play in the case. We'll find out why Blanc's looking so serious, whether paranormal activity is in fact afoot, whodunnit, and what exactly they did, when Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery arrives on Netflix in 2025.
