GVM BD25R RGB Tube Light

Brutalist Review Style (Version 2)

I did not know much about GVM before receiving the BD25R RGB Tube Light to review, and I must say I am impressed. This light is an amazing addition to our range, and the attention to quality is fantastic. The cylindrical design of the BD25R is not just for show; it is functional, providing a 360-degree spread of light for even illumination.

The build quality is robust, with a durable aluminium outer shell that can withstand the rigours of both studio and on-location shoots. The Tube Light is lightweight, weighing in at 1.6kg, making it easy to transport and set up, a feature that will be appreciated by photographers and videographers who are always on the move.

BD25R RGB Tube Light light offers a wide range of colour temperatures, from a warm 2700K to a cool 10000K, allowing users to match the lighting to their specific needs. Additionally, the RGB mode opens up a spectrum of colours, providing creative freedom to experiment with different lighting effects. The light uses a full RGB+WY five-colour light source, which means it can produce tens of millions of rich and vivid colours, and it looks fantastic in photos and video.

Even if you have never used this type of production equipment before, the GVM BD25R is surprisingly easy to learn. The intuitive control panel is easy to navigate, with a clear display showing current settings. Brightness, colour temperature and RGB settings are easily adjusted using responsive dials and buttons.

For those who prefer remote control, the GVM BD25R can be controlled via a smartphone app for added convenience. This feature is particularly useful for solo shooters who need to make adjustments on the fly without moving away from the camera. It even works in a Bluetooth mesh network, allowing you to control multiple lights simultaneously, which is a great help when you need to get a scene just right.

Beyond the features, the light output alone is impressive, providing ample illumination for a variety of shooting scenarios. Colour accuracy is impeccable, ensuring that your subjects are lit in a natural and flattering way. The tube light also boasts a high CRI (Colour Rendering Index) of 97+, meaning that colours are rendered accurately and vividly. This is crucial for professional work where colour fidelity is paramount, and the additional movements and adjustments help to get the lighting just right, whatever the project.

One of the first things I noticed when I opened the box of the GVM BD25R was the accessories, including the NP-F lithium-ion batteries and chargers. The light can be powered by the supplied NP-F lithium-ion batteries or an AC adapter, providing flexibility for both indoor and outdoor shooting. With the included dual NP-F lithium-ion batteries, you can achieve hours of use, and the chargers support USB-C, making it easy to charge them up when needed, even in the field. Many lights on the market do not include batteries and chargers, so hats off to GVM for going the extra mile.

Content creators can use the tube light to enhance the production value of YouTube videos, live streams, and social media content. The GVM BD25R comes equipped with 12 scene lighting effects, including Lightning, CCT Loop, Candlelight, Bad Bulb, TV, Paparazzi, Explosion, Pulse, Disco, Police Car, Party, and HUE Loop. Additionally, it features six-pixel light effects, such as Flow, Rainbow, Block Game, Ping Pong, Wave, and Shooting Star, which can be adjusted manually or through the app. These effects add a layer of creativity and fun to your lighting setup, making it easier to achieve the desired ambiance for your shoots.

I am very impressed with the overall package GVM brought with the BD25R. While there are other RGB tube lights available, many of them come with a hefty price tag or do not provide the lighting to make a noticeable difference in a shoot. The GVM offers a similar level of performance at a fraction of the cost, making it an attractive option for both amateurs and professionals. Its ease of use, versatility, and reliable performance make it a strong contender in the lighting market.
