Toronto Hosts Intel's Groundbreaking AI Art Showcase

Intel Brings AI Art Exhibit to Toronto's Distillery District

Intel is bringing a unique blend of art and technology to Toronto with its Encore AI Exhibit, set to run from June 21 to 27 at Illuminarium in the city’s Distillery District.

The exhibit features works from nine emerging North American mixed media artists who have reimagined their previous creations using AI-powered technology. Visitors can expect to see a variety of audio, visual, and sculptural installations that interact with the audience in real time.

A showcase of what is possible when AI is used in the arts to enhance the vision of artists, the exhibition presents a range of concepts that are both exciting and unique. From an installation that continuously generates new music that visitors can manipulate to create a soundtrack for the gallery to another activation that uses facial recognition and body language analysis to create dynamic images, it demonstrates the potential of technology when used in new and innovative ways.

Marketing Director at Intel Canada, Asma Aziz, explained the motivation behind the exhibit:  “The Intel Encore AI Exhibit is a celebration of the synergy between human creativity and artificial intelligence, and we’re thrilled to bring this experience to the Canadian public.”

We had a great time at the Intel Encore AI Exhibit at the @illuminariumtoronto. This was an art exhibit displaying how AI can supplement art and was really interesting to check out! Go see it in the distillerydistrict! #IntelCoreUltra #EncoreAIExhibit #IntelAI #Ai #intel

The experience begins in a briefing room that sets the stage for the gallery. The main space features projection mapping on walls and floors, along with surround sound, and gives a look at the art in an immersive and interactive way. The show will also host meet-the-artist events, giving visitors a chance to interact with the creators and learn about their AI-enhanced artistic process.

As this is an Intel event, each exhibit will be paired with an artist and laptop brand, and users will be able to see what is possible with the latest Core Ultra CPUs with AI capabilities directly on the devices. At the end of the tour, attendees will be able to explore Intel Core Ultra processor-based devices and create their own AI-powered works of art. These creations will be displayed alongside the work of the featured artists.

The Intel Encore AI Exhibit features work from renowned artists like PRAYFIRSTDIVA + ROBBOT.5000, Alexander McLeod, Dara Vandor, Gabriel Masewich, Memorecks, Casey Watson, Voidz, and McAfee Design and is part of a larger campaign surrounding the launch of Intel Core Ultra mobile processors for first-generation AI PCs. It aims to demonstrate how AI can enhance creativity and be applied in everyday life.

CGMagazine was able to get in touch with Robbot 5000, where they explained how their art exhibit “visualized tracked visitor data with the intention of engaging them in the experience and one another.” We went on to ask a few more questions about AI, Art, the devices on display and the Intel Encore AI Exhibit overall:

Which device did you use for your installation, and how did it help you with your piece?

Robbot 5000: I had the pleasure of using the LG gram Pro for my installation. Its power-to-weight ratio made a big impact to my installation at the Intel Encore AI exhibit. The LG gram Pro holds within it Intel Core Ultra 7 Processor 155H with the NVIDIA RTX 3050 graphics card, all packed into an incredibly lightweight body and was quite the treat in comparison to lugging around back-breaking laptops from event to event like I’ve done in the past. It had more than enough of the processing power that my project needed. The large 17” WQXGA high-resolution OLED display allowed me to work on all aspects of my project on one screen with ease.

What was your reaction when asked to participate in an AI forward Art Exhibit?

Robbot 5000: Absolutely stoked. To be given the opportunity to explore AI while further developing an idea I had at a larger scale was quite the dream. Also, being surrounded by talented artists doing the same and learning about their workflows and uses of AI was really neat.

Do you use AI in your art regularly, or was this a new experience for you?

Robbot 5000: I’ve been making it more of a regular practice but using it at this level was a new experience for me for sure. There’s always new tools and methods that I try to keep on top of, and having AI to help optimize and even teach me those different workflows has been a game changer. A big jump I made with my installation for my exhibit for the Intel Encore AI exhibit was getting help with generating and thinking out my Python code, which honestly, for a long time, I dismissed due to lack of knowledge towards diving into something like that.

What do you think about the use of AI in art and creation overall?

Robbot 5000: I feel it’s becoming an incredibly valuable tool to have on your belt when utilized correctly. It provides efficiencies towards aspects of the creation process that are repetitive and time-consuming, which allows more time to focus on the creative part of the artwork itself. Finding the balance and knowing how to be creative and learn with AI but still be in control of the piece itself I find is key.

Intel’s innovative showcase not only highlights Intel’s technological prowess but also offers Torontonians a glimpse into the future of art and technology. As AI continues to evolve, events like this provide a tangible way for the public to engage with and understand its potential impact on creative industries and demonstrate how AI can work in tandem with creativity to make something truly new and exciting.

For those interested in attending, free half-hour slots can be reserved online. The exhibit is open to all ages and runs from June 21 – to 27, making it a potential family-friendly outing during its week-long run. you can claim your tickets by visiting intelencore.ai.
