Capcom Reportedly Working On Remakes For Resident Evil Zero And Code Veronica

Rumours are flying about the possibility of Resident Evil Zero and Code Veronica getting remakes from Capcom.

The last few years have been very good to the Resident Evil franchise, with fan favourites Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4 receiving full remakes, and new titles Resident Evil 7 and Village being very well received as well.

Capcom is looking to continue the positive trend by adding both Resident Evil Zero and Code Veronica to the remake queue. According to a Twitter/X post by AestheticGamer, aka Dusk Golem, Resident Evil Zero, and Code Veronica are both “in development right now.” No word has been provided by Capcom, however, on the matter of the next two games to get the remake treatment.

Released in November of 2002, initially on the Nintendo GameCube, Resident Evil Zero is a prequel to the original title Resident Evil. It takes place prior to the events of Resident Evil and follows the story of the S.T.A.R.S. Bravo team following their disappearance in the Arklay Mountains outside of Raccoon City.

Receiving generally positive reviews at release, Resident Evil Zero has the player controlling S.T.A.R.S. Bravo team member Rebecca Chambers and fugitive Billy Coen as they take on the horrors of the Umbrella Corporation.

Code Veronica was released in 2000 on the SEGA Dreamcast and is the fourth mainline title in the Resident Evil franchise. Code Veronica is also the first Resident Evil title to be initially released on a console other than PlayStation, although it did receive releases on the GameCube, PS2, and Xbox 360 at later dates.

Taking place three months following the events of Resident Evil 2, Code Veronica follows series favourite Claire Redfield and her brother Chris as they try to escape a prison island following an outbreak of the T-Virus.

Code Veronica was received exceptionally well by audiences and critics alike, with some calling it a “Must-own game.”

Whether or not the Code Veronica and Resident Evil Zero remakes are in the works has not been confirmed by Capcom yet, but with Summer Game Fest and more around the corner, who knows what we will find out this month!
