All The Big Announcments From the May 2024 State Of Play

As the gaming world waits with bated breath for all the announcements to be made over the next month, Sony has pulled back the curtain on a host of exciting titles for PlayStation 5. This big reveal comes just ahead of Summer Game Fest and a number of other major showcases taking place throughout June.

From highly anticipated sequels to exciting new IPs, the May 2024 PlayStation State of Play event offered a tantalizing glimpse into the future of gaming on PS5, giving a good view of what gamers should be excited to play over the coming months and into 2025. Here’s a comprehensive look at everything that was announced during this exciting presentation.

Concord

Announced last year, the May State of Play kicked off with a new look at Concord, starting with a cinematic trailer that was very Guardians of the Galaxy feeling and showed off its PVP gameplay. The cooperative online shooter from Firewalk Studios looks to play similar to Overwatch. Concord will launch on PS5 on August 23, 2024, with a public beta in July.

God Of War: Ragnarok is Coming to PC

God Of War: Ragnarok, the critically acclaimed award-winning sequel to 2016’s God of War is heading to PC with unlocked framerates. Ultra-widescreen support and support for NVIDI DLSS 3.7, AMD FSR 3.1 and Intel XESS 1.3. The game will also come with the Vallhala DLC. It will launch on September 19th, 2024.

Dynasty Warriors Origins

The newest entry into the Dynasty Warriors franchise, Dynasty Warriors Origins, looks to feature the flashy, 1 vs. 1000 combat the series is known for—although it seems to be focused on a new main character. Dynasty Warriors Origins is set to launch sometime in 2025.

Infinity Nikki

Combining adventure, fashion, and photography Infinity Nikki is an open-world dress up game that looks to utilize the PS5 power to create some incredible environments. No launch date has been announced, but a Test has been set for Q3 of 2024.

Ballad of Antara

Looking like a combination of Final Fantasy XVI and Nioh, Ballad of Antara has unique characters facing off against fearsome foes in a devastated landscape. No firm release date was announced, but the game is slated to hit stores in 2025.

Skaydance’s Behemoth

Coming to PSVR2, Skydance’s Behemoth looks to be an intense mix of fantasy and comedic levels of gore – players will be able to punch heads clean off bodies. Sky no firm release date was set, but Skydance’s Behemoth hits this fall 2024.

Alien Rouge Incursion

Coming to PSVR2 as well as PC, Alien Rouge Incursion looks to bring the horror of Ridley Scott’s horror classic to a truly terrifying VR experience. No release date was announced for the game, but a tentative Holiday 2024 was teased.

Marvel Rivals

Marvel Rivals was showcased, and things are looking interesting. The game revealed more of its third-person PVP action, complete with terrain destruction and a wide array of characters. Although no release date was set, a closed beta for the PS5 is scheduled for July 2024.

Where Winds Meet

Where Winds Meet is an open-world action-adventure RPG set in ancient China’s tumultuous Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms era. The trailer showcased the game’s incredibly fast-paced, hyper-stylish combat. However, no release date was set for the game, at least not yet.

Until Dawn Remake

The PS5 update of the seminal horror game Until Dawn showcased a plethora of updated visuals to enhance the choice-based gameplay. While no release date for the remake was set during the May State Of Play, Until Dawn is scheduled to launch for PS5 and PC in Fall 2025.

Path of Exile 2

Path of Exile 2 showcased its grim atmosphere and intense top-down RPG gameplay, highlighting various classes. The trailer also featured the game’s couch co-op and cross-play/cross-progression capabilities. Early access begins in late 2024.

Silent Hill 2 Remake

In a much more appropriate trailer, Silent Hill 2 Remake showed off more of the game’s moody atmosphere while still focusing on the game’s enhanced combat. Silent Hill 2 Remake comes to PS5 on Oct 8th, 2024.

Monster Hunter Wids

The newest entry in the Monster Hunter franchise, Monster Hunter Wilds, showcased a wealth of new gameplay, including glimpses into the story and intense monster-hunting action. The game also highlighted new weather and environmental elements, as well as the role of the new mount in gameplay. Monster Hunter Wilds launches for PS5 in 2025.

Astro Bot

Finishing up the State Of Play in a fun and vibrant way, the last one is Astro Bot. Arguably the best game/tech demo for the PS5, Astro Bot now promises to be a full-fledged adventure featuring everyone’s favourite blue and white robot. While still acting as a love letter to the PS5 and seemingly the PS5 Pro, Astro Bot looks bigger and better than ever. It will launch for the PS5 on September 6th, 2025.
