The Philadelphia Phillies are Pennsylvania’s oldest professional sports franchise and one of the most historic in the MLB. The Phillies started in 1883 and won World Series titles in 1980 and 2008. The team has eight National League pennants, including one in 2022.

The Pittsburgh Pirates are the second MLB team based in Pennsylvania. Established in 1887, they are also one of the league’s most historic franchises. The franchise has won five World Series titles: 1909, 1925, 1960, 1971, and 1979. The Pirates have won nine total National League pennants.

The Philadelphia Flyers are one of Pennsylvania’s two National Hockey League (NHL) teams. The team was founded in 1967 and has two Stanley Cup wins, back-to-back victories in 1974 and 1975. The team has eight conference championships and 16 division championships to its credit.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are the other NHL team in PA and the far more successful one. The “Pens” have won five Stanley Cups, including back-to-back wins in 2016 and 2017. They have reached the finals on six occasions, only losing once, all since 1991.
