One negative review is that I wish the editor actually took their time to fix grammatical errors.
First, there are the requisite Jedi action scenes, for which there is both plenty and well written (most writer's description of action scenes I find either boring or incomprehensible) and don't crowd out the story. Next, is a well crafted political machinations with different power players interfering with the protagonists efforts. But the real gem of this story is the adventure part, the part when they finally leave the city.
The story is set on a plains planet with nomadic tribes that have a, inconsistent, distrust of technology (they use blasters and comms but no land speeders). But this allows an excuse for the author to get his characters on relatively slow (to speeder velocity) native animals. ADF understands that the fun of an adventure story isn't getting to the destination, it's the journey along the way. We get to meet guides, different tribes that help or hurt our heroes, learn about the culture and ecology of the planet, and generally just explore. Anyone who has read a good fantasy novel where the characters experience highs, lows, dangers and wonder as they travel along the countryside know what I am writing about.
If I had complaints it was that the political machination side wasn't developed quite enough for me, the ending after they acquired the treaty seemed abrupt and that I wanted to learn more about the planet they were on.
But, if you're looking for a good, solid enjoyable read I strongly suggest The Approaching Storm.
Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker have been sent to Ansion to join another Jedi, named Luminar, and her Padawan, Barriss. Their mission is to negotiate a truce between the Unity Council that controls the city on Ansion and the Alwari, who are nomads that roam the plains. In doing so, they hope to keep Ansion from seceding from the Republic and taking countless other worlds with them in the Seperatist movement.
Although I enjoyed Foster's descriptions of the Jedi characters, I felt this story lacked too many other Star Wars elements. Established races and vehicles were lacking. A few characters that were introduced to the public at large in Episode Two make an appearance in this novel, but not enough other 'friendly' faces are present.
Overall, the novel has a style that is more akin to 'Allen Quartermain and the Lost City of Gold' than a Star Wars novel, as the Jedi roam the plains interacting with various Alwari tribes and taking on the dangerous life forms that inhabit Ansion. While the adventure was fun to read, it felt like was being accomplished.
The worst aspect of the novel was the character Tooqui. Anyone who hated the Ewoks from 'Return of the Jedi' or Jar Jar Binks from the first two prequel movies is really going to despise this character. Although this character has a few heroic moments without complete bumbling, his mannerism and description is incredibly annoying.
Despite all of this, this is still a decent novel. There are several good insights into Anakin and his impending turn to the Dark Side. The Jedi/Padawan relationship is fleshed out nicely between Anakin and Obi-Wan and Luminar and Barriss. It is a decent adventure story, it just lacked that special something that makes the Star Wars universe so unique and fun.

This is more an adventure book as you get to know the planet of Ansion and its particular flora and fauna, its lore.
Politics is a big part of he book, as the Jedi must unite Ansions tribes to stay in the Republic. Separatists do everything in their power to prevent the Jedi reaching the Ansion Counsil.
The last quarter of the book is more to my preferences. It is like a race against time.
My conclusion is that this book was not a revelation, and since the 4 months that has passed since the reading, I have forgotten most of it, unlike the others SW novels I had.
