Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Audio CD – Abridged, August 19, 2008
The overthrow of the Republic is complete. The Separatist forces have been smashed, the Jedi Council nearly decimated, and the rest of the Order all but destroyed. Now absolute power rests in the iron fist of Darth Sidious–the cunning Sith Lord better known as the former Senator, now Emperor, Palpatine. But more remains to be done. Pockets of resistance in the galaxy must still be defeated and missing Jedi accounted for . . . and dealt with. These crucial tasks fall to the Emperor’s ruthless enforcer, Darth Vader. In turn, the Dark Lord has groomed a lethal apprentice entrusted with a top-secret mission: to comb the galaxy and dispatch the last of his masters’ enemies, thereby punctuating the dark side’s victory with the Jedi’s doom.
Since childhood, Vader’s nameless agent has known only the cold, mercenary creed of the Sith. But his future beckons with the ultimate promise: to stand beside the only father he has ever known, with the galaxy at their feet. It is a destiny he can realize only by rising to the greatest challenge of his discipleship: destroying Emperor Palpatine.
The apprentice’s journeys will take him across the far reaches of the galaxy. And he will be tested as never before–by shattering revelations that strike at the very heart of all he believes and stir within him long-forgotten hopes of reclaiming his name . . . and changing his destiny.

The first act goes by very fast, and seemed somewhat rushed at times, but later on the story takes a slower pace, opening up for more in-depth characterization.
For the most part, the novel, like the game, is very action oriented. You will never go too long without Marek chopping up a Stormtrooper. The fight scenes are very well written with a great use of imagery that always keep me guessing. No two of the novels violent encounters are the same. But though combat is the main focus of the book, it still has it's thoughtful moments. At several points throughout his journey, Starkiller recedes into his own mind to contemplate the nature of The Force. Albeit it is not on par with the philosophical etiquette of Plaguies, but those solemn moments are present nonetheless.
The book takes on several topics that do not appear in the game as well. Juno actually has a story behind her, and in my opinion, it's a pretty good one too. But what I found most interesting was the exposure to Marek's inner conflict. We can observe the Light and Dark clash within him as he develops attachments to his crew and becomes disillusioned with his Master. By the final chapter I felt that I had really watched him grow as a person and not as a Force-Powerhouse.
Is this novel perfect? No, it is not. It has it's flaws. But all in all, I loved it and had fun the whole way. If your willing, you should at least give it a try.
It's a book based on a video game, so you have to read it in that context. As far as books based on video games go, this was decent. It flowed pretty well, it gave decent reasons for all the endless missions. It even had a few nice twists, for those like me who can't play the video game b/c it literally makes them nauseous. The character development was all right. Juno's an interesting enough character.
The Apprentice certainly leads an interesting life. Of course he has ridiculous powers, it would make for a terrible video game if he didn't.
I gave this 4 stars because, while not the best book out there, it was entertaining. That's really what counts.

The reverse of vader, going from the sith to jedi with good mental and emotional conflicts that amplified as the story progressed.
You will not see vader bested that much in eithrt canon or legends but to see him mentally pulled apart, wow.
I found myself bearing the end and wanting more. Another great read from the Star Waes EU catalogue.
