This is by no means a terrible book but much over rated from this readers perspective. It has been a good while since I have read any of the extended universe books for Star Wars but I have enjoyed all of the Timothy Zahn books.

Early on and to disappointment Zhan makes it clear he supports Lucas by reproducing the Han Solo cantina shoot out with Han getting in the second shot. I'm not sure what Zahn's intent was but to this reader it felt very much like he was rubbing this issue into this fans face. This very much had a demoralizing effect on the rest of the book and it was clear to this reader that it was this character of Han Solo that Zahn was writing and not the one that many fans had envisioned from the original Star Wars.

This story doesn't feel so much like star wars as it does an oceans 11 plot with aliens and advance technology. The book came to an unexpected end not so much because It was poorly rapped up but simply because the last 30% of the book is excerpts from other Star Wars books.

The end overall was satisfying and there where some compelling areas but also a few weak links in bridging events between the SW 4 and SW 5.
