Peace may have finally come to the Galaxy. On the planet Alderran, representatives from both the Jedi and Sith orders have met to try to stop the galactic war that has been raging. But one Sith, Darth Malgus, is determined to see the Jedi destroyed.

During the negotiations, Malgus and his Twi'lek servant Eleena have made their way to the Jedi temple on Coruscant. Making their way inside, they come upon Jedi Master Ven Zallow. Soon, light sabers are crashing, and a drop ship full of Sith has crashed through the temple. Zallow is killed, and the temple ruined.

Back on Alderran, Jedi Aryn Leneer, pupil of Zallow, has felt his death. Determined to find who killed Zallow and fueled by anger, Aryn leaves her delegation on Alderran without telling them. On her way, Aryn meets up with Zeerid Korr, a smuggler who is trying to smuggle illegal spice onto Coruscant. Concerned for the well-being of his young daughter, Zeerid is determined to make this one last drop and leave smuggling forever. Aryn, who is also headed to Coruscant to find Malgus, hooks on with Zeerid, and soon, an alliance is formed.

Malgus is tormented by his own uncertainties. Eleena is in love with him, and she even calls him by his real name, but Malgus is unsure of her. He does have feelings for her but, as time goes along, he begins to see that these feelings are beginning to get in the way of his master plan to thwart the peace negotiations and continue the war against the Jedi. Eventually, Aryn and Malgus meet on Coruscant, but who will survive? Will Zeerid be able to get back to his daughter?

This is a very good book. The story is well developed, and the battle between the Jedi and Sith is exciting. The character development, especially those of Malgus and Aryn, is excellent, and I enjoyed reading about Malgus' and Aryn's internal struggles. The ending of the book leaves the possibility for a sequel wide open. Star Wars fans will not want to miss "Deceived". Highly recommended.
