I am on page 188 and yet very little is happening. I think the first book had fewer characters and far more action. This book introduces dozens upon dozens of new characters and it's dizzying trying to remember who is who. Why are we getting the names of a Mon Calamari Opera singer and her manager? Why are we getting the names of random characters who are simply in the scene, but have no other purpose of the story. Furthermore, the book goes into politics and bureaucracy for far too long. Its reminiscent of the Phantom Menace at this point. While I had a hard time putting down book 1, the opposite is sadly true for book 2. I am obligated to read it, so I can hope for a much better book 3, but I have to choke down all this political nonsense, which, in my opinion, is about 200 pages too much! I also don't need to know the names of everyone attending the fair. Somehow we made it through the cantina scene in the original Star Wars movie in 1977 without any names for the patrons in the bar or the bartender, unless they were involved in the story besides simply 'being there.'

UPDATE: Okay, finally. some action at around chapter 29, nearly the halfway point. I mean, the book is called Star WARS, not Star C-SPAN!

I feel like chapters 4-24 are there to fill pages. They don't seem to serve any purpose to better understand the story or the conflict that finally becomes action!

It was just starting to get good, then in Chapter 47, the Jedi is Doctor DooLittle, trying to calm down wild carnivorous animals loose from the zoo. So, Jedi could do this all along and Luke killed the Rancor out of cruelty? Then we get the VERY predictable Han Solo-like character of bad guy/good guy, only in this story the Han Solo character is an ex-Jedi named Ty Yorrick. Sigh. Such lazy writing.

I was hopeful the book was getting better, but it's right back where it started from with regards to story-telling. I am so disappointed.

I'll follow this review up once I've finished the book, which shouldn't be too long from now since it's finally almost over.
