Prominence Audible Audiobook – Unabridged

They tried to destroy our planets. Our way of life. They tried to send us into extinction. But we, the Coalition, fought them and won. That was a decade ago. We had assumed they were beaten for good.

We were wrong.

They’re known as the Host: a cabal of aliens seeking to dominate our sector of space. And they’re back - with help from a powerful new enemy.

Against their wrath, we must stand. We’re outnumbered and unprepared. If we lose, we lose everything.

But there is hope. An ancient race of long-dead but technologically advanced aliens called the Navigators have a ship called the Blackstar that could potentially turn the tide. That is if I, Kai Locke, a humble ship racer, can find it and learn how to harness its power in time.

If I fail, the Coalition will fall, and the Host will consign us to a distant memory. I refuse to let that happen. I will fight to my last breath for the Coalition’s survival.

For fans of Star Wars, Firefly, Battlestar, and Guardians of the Galaxy.

I'd not previously been familiar with A.C. Hadfield's writing, but the author has written a great story in Prominence.

Hadfield has a solid grip of what makes space opera / adventure tick, and Prominence does exactly that. The story moves at a perfect pace from the first scenes of Kai Locke and his partner, Senaya, racing through a crowded marketplace, to back-alley deals, high-stakes action, deep space dogfights, behind-the-scenes political scheming, and shadowy figures waiting in the wings to twist the plot.

Prominence is a thrill ride, a fine story, and places A.C. Hadfield among contemporary sci-fi's strongest writers. I'm really looking forward to the rest of the series!

Although this is not a deeply intellectual book, I am giving it four stars because it is a very good for its genre--space opera. Fast paced with likeable characters and lots of action, I enjoyed it very much and look forward to reading the next one. My only criticism is that I would like a little more detail on the alien life and more background on the character of Sendaya.

This story has a lot of potential but ultimately failed to deliver - trading substance for simplicity. Character development was scattered and by the time I finished reading it I had no desire to read any other books in the series. I've read other books by Hadfield which I've enjoyed greatly but this one is a disappointment.

Prominence is the first book in a new series by authors Hadfield and Barnes. I thoroughly enjoyed the story-line which has a definite quest/adventure vibe that sees main character Kai Locke go on a journey to find his missing father and a legendary Navigater ship called Blackstar. Hadfield and Barnes have created an interesting universe full of different alien species, a mysterious race called Navigators, great characters and plenty of action. Looking forward to the next book :)

There are lots of intrigue, action, and twists in the plot that keep the story moving at a fast pace. And what's not to love about the main characters, Kai Locke and his snarky & quick-witted partner, Senaya. The story starts interestingly enough and then picks up speed and new characters with gusto and then ends with treachery at the highest levels of government. There are aliens, other planets, and eye-rolling humor in this story. The only thing that keeps this from being a book I would recommend to all ages is the f-bomb that was used a very few times. I suppose today most people just ignore it and go on their way but it is offensive to me. Enough said about that. The story is engaging as are the characters and the hook at the end leaves me wanting to read the next in the series.

Hello Colin, Just a note that I just finished reading Prominence. I really enjoyed it and always love a book I hate to put down. This one definitely cost me some sleep. I action was fast paced and the storyline unique and interesting. I also very much enjoyed the easy to read format. My eyes aren't what they used to be and I dislike having to strain to read text. Anxiously awaiting the next book in the series. T.B.

Enjoyed the quick and easy read. The flow from chapter to chapter was smooth and tended to keep you engaged to continue following the plot line.
While the plot was centered around the main character Kai, I felt there was much more room to expand on some of the other characters and details such as the Navigator historian and the engineer sidekick. I felt there were some missed opportunities where the historian could have had a bigger role within the ancient ruins. That whole part of Kai just leading everyone to the plinth through ancient ruins and we barely get to hear anything from the historian about what she knows about the Navigators. That whole section of the story just seemed rushed, like hurry up we need to end the book in so many more pages so we can move on to the next book.

Very interesting. You did a believable story line and it was different than what others have written. I do enjoy more battle strategies and battle details than what you gave. But I still enjoyed the ideas you have.

Nicely written easy reader, exciting story line with some great twists and turns throughout. Even better there's a follow up book to keep you intrigued!

Such a well penned space opera. The likeable characters are very well developed, the universe intriguing and the array of aliens is fascinating. There are also some awesome twists, great tech, and riveting battle scenes. Conspiracy abounds.

Would like to read the next book right now, but I guess I'll just have to be patient and wait for it to be written!

Lots of drama and skirmishes with predatory alien species and bad guys. I found some of the action disjointed and the fights irresponsible.

I was, however, slightly disappointed in that I felt that the intended audience was young adult, not grizzled oldy like me. The text was of a different nature than the Code Breaker series, which held me riveted throughout. The story was a series of disconnected set pieces of slightly simplistic complexity which went on too long.
