The Awakening: Broken Worlds, Book 1 Audible Audiobook – Unabridged

From the USA Today best-selling author of Dark Space.

They went to sleep on earth, but where did they wake up?

Darius Drake is desperate to save his daughter, Cassandra. So desperate he's willing to risk their lives in cryo-sleep to give her a future. But the dark, freezing vault where he wakes up is nothing like the luxurious Florida hospital he remembers. Everything about this place is alien to him, even the language. Little does he know how alien it really is.

Darius and his daughter go exploring their new surroundings with a few others from the cryo pods, and they soon discover frozen, mutilated bodies everywhere. The dead are wearing strange uniforms, and they seem to have used some kind of energy weapons to defend themselves, but it wasn't enough. Adding to the mystery, all the doors of the facility have been ripped open, and there are claw marks around them - but what could shred through reinforced metal like paper?

The answer to that question proves more terrifying than any of them could have guessed. There's a war raging, and they've woken up in the middle of it.

Broken Worlds: The Awakening takes you on a tense thrill ride through a frightening future with new mysteries and twists in every minute. Fans of Star Wars and Battlestar Galactica will love this new series: a dark, gritty space opera with unexpected twists, complex characters, and nightmarish antagonists.

Review

★★★★★"Of all the sci-fi I have read over the years, Jasper T. Scott has written a story that I have not read the likes of! Ever! Broken Worlds: The Awakening by Jasper T. Scott is very well thought out and very well written. This book would make such an awesome movie! I highly recommend reading Broken Worlds: The Awakening by Jasper T. Scott."

★★★★★"Another great Sci-fi book by Jasper T. Scott. Being a pilot and engineer as my two life professions I have found most authors have little or no grasp of the technical details required to prevent this type of story from being unrealistic and hokey. Jasper does an outstanding job.... I highly recommend you read this excellent book and follow this author."
-Captain K.B. Jolley, Amazon Reviewer

★★★★"I really enjoyed this book! I thought it was extremely well written, full of action and surprises. If you enjoyed the Dark Space series by this author then you will love this."
-Ryan Nelson, Amazon Reviewer
★★★★"Jasper Scott makes the fantastic feel routine so the reader can focus on the story.... And the story is so good I wish time-travel were possible so I could jump to a point in the future where the final book in this series was completed and I could read the entire series without interruption."
-THE HOLEY ONE, Amazon Reviewer

★★★★ "Another amazing book by Mr. Scott! I am increasingly amazed that every time I think that he has topped it he does it again! I can't wait for the next part of this series and any other books that Mr. Scott writes! I am a fan for life!"

You just can’t go wrong with Scott’s books. I’m a big fan and this book is one of the reasons why. There’s just no slowing down when it gets moving. You find a new twist or surprise waiting for you every time you think you figured it out. Looking forward to the next one.

As far as my personal preferences go, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I like the pace of the character development. Some of them are fairly transparent from the beginning. Some develop as the storyline unfolds. And some undergo changes as the story unfolds. The basis of the story is interesting. And I am looking forward to seeing how it plays out through the rest of the series.

I have read almost every book by the author. I went back and read his early works on Amazon while waiting for new material. Even though the writing was not as good early on. They kept my interest because the story itself was good. I also appreciate that although there are characters who cuss in the story, it's mainly one character who is not in the conversation of the book most of the time. Others might say something here and there. But it's driven more by the stress of a situation rather than being normal conversation. I've only read one of his books that I got tired of the amount of it and skipped the rest of the series. I have found other authors who write interesting books. But I get tired of excessive cussing or detailed sex encounters. It's not what I'm looking for when I sit down to read a book. I'm looking for an interesting story. And I'm finding one in this series.

Overall I found this book to be very entertaining and a page Turner that was hard to put down. Of course page Turner in modern terms is more like screen flicks but nonetheless it is a book to read. Generally, the characters were relatively believable and I like the fact that there was a multiple of different alien species so that it wasn't just a human based story. For me, just a couple of knitpicks was that there was a little do ex machina in how main characters sometimes got out of a situation. But then, this is Space Opera, so remind you it's allowed. I found the pacing to be good and the plot flow definitely built to a big ending.

If there was one thing I didn't necessarily understand other than the fact that this is more space Opera then science fiction, is always the need for massive ships. A ship that's 3.9 km long, a ship that's got its own gravity, just doesn't make a lot of sense. On top of that the crew size didn't necessarily fit the need of the ship. I also felt that the main antagonist the Banshees in the ghouls we're almost unbelievable and it was hard for me to imagine that they could have created such a civilization considering the violent nature of their character.

However, in the end 1 / looks these exaggerations and accepts it as part of the norm because the characters and the plots do not send her so much around the size of a ship or the almost impossible nature of destroying the bad guys. I love the fact that the story was one of the most simple stories of all, a father trying to protect his daughter in a scary, almost impossible new world. I look forward to the next book in the series.

Broken Worlds: The Awakening by Jasper T. Scott is excellent Sci-Fi reading. This book shows considerable maturity in attention to detail that Scott occasionally overlooked in his Dark Space series. It is also quite a departure in the scale of the cast in that Broken Worlds basically involves a dad trying to save his daughter from numerous perils whereas in Dark Space there were several plots and subplots with casts of millions and trillions driven by two "gods" at war with each other. The plot is unique in that a dad trying to save his daughter from cancer has her cryogenically stored until a cure can be found and he joins her in cryo so that she won't be alone when awakened. What is unique though is that when they awaken they find themselves in a spaceship (with all the crew dead), over a thousand years into the future and not in the Solar System. They adapt quickly, however, with the help of a "damaged" android and the assistance of fellow "cryos". All are cured of their pre-cryo illnesses by an injection of healing nanites injected into their bloodstreams. The only "scientific license" Scott takes in this novel is FTL travel and a "worm hole". Overall, Broken Worlds shows incredible imagination of plot and setting, great attention to detail, and is a spell binding story you won't want to put down.

I was skeptical at the beginning, the list of characters put me off starting this book several times. Big mistake. Once I got started it drew me in and kept me turning the pages. Fun read with enough attention to detail to make it easy to get lost in the story and ignore the slightly cliched story arc. I am going to buy the next episode if I don't get a free one.

When I saw the publicity for this new book from Jasper T Scott, I thought "maybe it will be too much of a change from his previous works"
I couldn't have been more wrong, I paid 4 euros for the best book I have in my collection (maybe 200 books plus). Often I can see where the story is going well I didn't expect this quality of story with so many twists and turns in the tale. The characters are people I meet every day in the street but in unusual situations also their names are easy to remeùber, the action is as fast as every other Jasper T Scott story but he has written it at a whole new level, surpassing all his previous works. Yes a spoiler alert I am a Fan of His work LOL
.I could not put this book down I may even have lost a few pounds from not eating at times it is that good.
I spent 4 euros and got the best read possible and I am reading it again for the second time, Can't wait for the book 2
This is a no risk deal. I assure you...

This plot has so many exciting places to go and my guesses probably don’t come anywhere near what the next books will bring. Superbly written and going on previous novels by Jasper T. Scott anything can happen. Brilliant characters, tension galore, enthralling interactions and many - oh my goodness moments. Looking forward to April 2018 when the next book comes out and have already preordered it.
