This graphics card is quite the upgrade from my 1050. Not only is my framerate very high (above 80 for most games on ultra settings,1080p) but the card runs quiet and cool. Games like PUBG, Elder Scrolls, CSGO and Crysis all run like a dream. Not much difference between this Gigabyte 170 card and the MSi card, the msi card just card looks prettier and has a backplate. No difference in performance. If you want a better looking card, go with the msi 1070, but if you're like me and don't care about looks too much, the gigabyte card is the right choice since you'll save some cash.

I will write another review once i try out my system on a 1440p, 144hz monitor since this card can run that resolution very well also. This card is a little bit overkill for the 1080p, but since i plan on upgrading to running 1440p in the near future, that's why I paid more for this card instead of a 1060. As far as 4k, this card can handle it, it's just that you'll sacrifice your framerate and get more like 26-30fps. For 4k, definitely get a 1080 and some solid cooling.

Overall this card crushes any game I throw at it. Only cons would be that it doesn't look as pretty as the other 1070's.

Update: 5/5/2018. It’s been almost a year with this card and I must say I’m impressed. No issues whatsoever yet. I also upgraded to a 1440p 144hz monitor and I can still run any modern game with 80+ fps easily. I also overclocked this card slightly using MSI Afterburner and it does get a little but hotter but nothing major. Going to get the most bang for my buck with this card until the new Volta cards come out. If you’re looking to buy a graphics card, I’d strongly recommend to wait until the new cards come out. The prices right now are crazy expensive!!!

I never wrote a review like I intended when I bought this card back in January of 2017. I figured I'd write it after I saw how it worked on my system and totally forgot about it.
Fast forward to April 2020. The card still working without a glitch. There has not been a game or graphic intensive software that it hasn't handled like a champ. I went looking to see how much I paid for it. With tax it came out to $405. Today, the card is going for over $500!!! THREE YEARS LATER!!!! I nearly spit the whiskey I was drinking that was going to convince me to buy another to do an SLI setup. So much for that idea!! LMAO!!
So, with the proper drivers, monitor and supported software, this card can do 8k resolutions. I can't attest to that, as 8k monitors are still too rich for my blood at this time. But it handles my Samsung 32" and my Asus 27" monitors at max resolutions without a glitch. I can have a game on the 32" and whatever else on the 27". Not. A. Problem.
Mind you, it's paired with a 7 year old Intel I5 3570K (overclocked) with 16 GB of RAM on a Gigabyte Z77X motherboard. The system is OOOOOLD!!! But still rocks like nobody's business!!
I have had no reason to upgrade. At All.
If you own this card, hold on to it. If you want this card, try to find a better deal than $500+.
    Highly recommended though.

Good compromise of price to performance. Currently about $180 cheaper than the GTX1080. You do not even need this strong of a card for normal PC things or streaming. This and the GTX 1080 are all about games and video editing. I do not do video editing. But here is my short version (opinions) related to gaming. The below opinions assume your CPU is quad core i5 or i7 from the last 3 or so years. I have no experience with these cards being used with dual core or older CPU's...\

    1) if you want to do 4K gaming at 144Hz - get the 1080...no get the 1080ti
    2) If you are happy doing 4K at 60HZ or less, and have G-Sync on the monitor - this will work, 1080 is better (more headroom)
    3) If you are using 1440p, have G-Sync on the monitor, the 1070 will do 144Hz, and over 100 without G-Sync. Smooth as butter for all but super competitive FPS competition - no real need for 1080 unless pushing 3 monitors and want ultra settings on your games
    4) If all you want is 1440p, single or dual monitor and are good with 100 frames or less on ultra settings, this is fine (which will likely be everyone but the hardest core gamers)
    5) For anything 1080p, and I mean pretty much anything, this card is enough - maybe overkill

5.0 out of 5 stars Excelente tarjeta de video y balance entre precio/desempeño

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Graphics Card!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on December 30, 2018
In anticipation of my purchase of an Oculus Rift system in late 2016, I purchased a Gigabyte GTX 1070 Windforce OC graphics card from ebuyer during a brief price dip to £386. I had been more than satisfied by the performance of the two Gigabyte GTX 660 Windforce OC cards running in SLI since late 2013; in fact it was only because of my desire to explore the world of VR that I bothered upgrading in the first place otherwise I'd probably still be running the GTX 660 cards to this day.

With zero complaints regarding my GTX 660 cards, Gigabyte had at least earned a little brand loyalty from me so I didn't even shop around for GTX 1070 boards by other brands, committing from the outset to remain with Gigabyte; I also wanted to remain with the Windforce OC family of products that the brand had on offer. It's true that the GTX 1060 cards could have supported my VR needs however they offer no SLI facility and despite the fact that SLI technology is heading the way of the dinosaur I still wanted to have the option of adding additional cards in the future.

The performance of the Gigabyte GTX 1070 Windforce OC card is impressive; I was benchmarking scores on a single card that were eclipsing the results of the two GTX 660 cards I had replaced and it took the VR gameplay in its stride. Despite the GTX 1070 being the number two card in town at the time (second only to the GTX 1080), I'm pretty confident that the it can still handle any game with all the quality and effects settings cranked up to max/ultra/epic, presenting gamers with silky smooth frame rates at 1920 x 1080 resolution. I can't speak for you gamers who need to throw around more pixels per frame than that.

I have read a few times that a few gamers are irritated by the excessive fan noise and coil whine generated by the Windforce OC; I don't share that opinion. In general day to day use of your PC the fans throttle down to zero anyway which is about as silent as it gets. It's only when you place some serious demands on the GTX 1070 Windforce OC (or overclock them) that the fans kick in for real; agreed there is noise but I've yet to find it so distracting, in fact I find it reassuring that they're doing their job of not letting the card cook itself.

So that was my experience with one GTX 1070... Card number two was pending but then that damn drought hit thanks to the whole crypto currency craze! I really didn't want to pay more than I had for the first card so like a hawk I was keeping an eye on both prices and stock counts of Gigabyte GTX 1070 Windforce OC cards pretty much every week (sometimes every day!). I witnessed price fluctuations as high as £600 at one point placing doubt on my ever being able to afford the purchase a second one but persistence was key and sure enough inside a window of a mere two days the price of these cards on Amazon crashed to £328; I caught it on the way down to £335. By day 3 the price had bounced back to clear more than £500!!! - How silly is that?

I received that second card in December of this year (2018), installed it* and am now armed with something of a monster of a gaming rig. I also complimented the SLI setup with a proper high band SLI bridge (by Gigabyte of course).
After another visit to the benchmark app by Passmark it is with smugness and satisfaction that I discovered the performance capabilities of my PC resides somewhere inside of the top 10% of all the machines that have been tested; not bad for what is predominantly a 2013 build system.
Before you commit to attempting the same however I should advise the uninitiated that SLI doesn't actually increase the graphics capability of you machine much beyond a heightened frame count and that there exists a law of diminishing returns on every additional card you add to your setup; yes, know that for the benefit of two cards running in concert, in real money terms I have paid over the odds. - Everybody does!

    But I am a happy boy! :D

*My gold standard Corsair 650W PSU appears content to be powering both of these cards; my machine has remained stable.
