With teenage kids who play multiple instruments, and with a music/tech nerd for a dad, the next logical step is recording. I bought these mics for them to use... they're less than $15 per mic, so if they get dropped, bashed, or otherwise rendered unusable, it's not a huge loss.
As wired out of the box, pin 3 ( - ) and pin 1 (ground) are shorted in the mic itself. It's a decent sounding mic for speech. There seems to be a bump in the upper mids which would make it a perfect PA mic for the high school principal when addressing an auditorium full of kids who want to be anywhere but there.
If you plan to use these for music, pop the connector out of the bottom and fix the wiring. If you know what you're doing, it's a quick fix. I had all 3 mics fixed and tested inside of 10 minutes.
With the mic now wired for a balanced signal, there is more bottom end and the sound is more full and rounded. This observation is based on nothing more than me talking into the mics as I tested them after the rewiring job.

I got these mics for my brother and I to practice singing for church and these are very good quality. The sound is very clear and these are not too light but not too heavy. Definitely recommend!!
