Falling Down (The Boy in the Iron Box Book 1) Kindle Edition
A group of mercenaries on an unsanctioned mission survives a plane crash in whiteout conditions in the Tian Shan mountains. The men are accustomed to danger. Now they’re growing accustomed to fear.
Team leader Liev and his band of survivors are stranded in the bitter winds with little hope of rescue—or outlasting the wolves that have scented blood. In the distance is the apparent sanctuary of an abandoned stone fortress. That an ancient bulwark even exists on this forsaken summit is beyond comprehension. So is what lies on the other side of its walls.
From Academy Award–winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro comes Falling Down, chapter one of The Boy in the Iron Box, a blood-chilling serialized novel about an ancient secret that was never meant to be unleashed, featuring exclusive interior artwork. Each chapter can be read or listened to in one breathless sitting.

From the Publisher
“Falling Down” is the first installment—call it a pilot episode—of a six-part horror serial called The Boy in the Iron Box. When a team of mercenaries survives a plane crash on a snow-covered mountaintop, they stumble across an ancient secret that was never meant to be unearthed. That fear of the unknown, both out in the world and within ourselves, is something that Guillermo del Toro’s creative vision turns to face head-on. I couldn’t look away—although I may have been peeking at the pages through my fingers as I read…
Anyone who’s watched a scary movie with me knows that they can measure my fright level by the pace of my popcorn eating. As you venture into this story, keep your friends close and your popcorn closer.

1 Amazon First Reads lists this as a short story that you can read in less than one hour. Author calls this book 1. A this isn't a book or a short story. By the definition this reader was taught by my grandmother a librarian. It's about a chapter that abruptly ends. B A short story has a beginning !middle and end. It has a beginning but lacks the other 2.
2 The blurb for Falling Down reads as if this is about a group of Elite mercenary team. The beginning calls them Black Ops mercenaries. This team by their names are Russian and Ukrainian flying into Asia. It gets very political from the start with comments about Russian president Putin ; as well as the pandemic and controversial ways not to contract illnesses.
So to this reader this feels like a to use a commercial term for retail ads back in the day. As bait and switch to get you in the door. Without the pictured items being available in all areas. I downloaded this story with expectations that weren't met even remotely.
30 pages story begins on 4 ends on 28
Said to have illustrations As 1
Says it's a Book its a tease to read 5 other "books" doesn't even amount to a prequel or a Novella .
Final opinion of this reader. Waste of my time. Thus I wouldn't recommend to others. Never heard of the author before; will avoid from now on. Don't care for the methods used. What I did read wasn't compelling .

Like - the plot heading in an interesting direction, maybe along the lines of F Paul Wilson's The Keep?
Dislike - overtly simple English even my 6 year old could follow.
