The 6:20 Man is back, dropped by his handlers into a small coastal town in Maine to solve the murder of a CIA agent who knew America’s dirtiest secrets—can Travis Devine uncover the truth before his time runs out?

When CIA operative Jenny Silkwell is murdered in rural Maine, government officials have immediate concerns over national security. Her laptop and phone were full of state secrets that, in the wrong hands, endanger the lives of countless operatives. In need of someone who can solve the murder quickly and retrieve the missing information, the U.S. government knows just the chameleon they can call on.

Ex-Army Ranger Travis Devine spent his time in the military preparing to take on any scenario, followed by his short-lived business career chasing shadows in the deepest halls of power, so his analytical mind makes him particularly well-suited for complex, high-stakes tasks. Taking down the world’s largest financial conspiracy proved his value, and in comparison, this case looks straightforward. Except small towns hold secrets and Devine finds himself an outsider again.

Devine must ingratiate himself with locals who have trusted each other their whole lives, and who distrust outsiders just as much. Dak, Jenny’s brother, who’s working to revitalize the town. Earl, the retired lobsterman who found Jenny’s body. And Alex, Jenny’s sister with a dark past of her own. As Devine gets to know the residents of Putnam, Maine, answers seem to appear and then transform into more questions. There’s a long history of secrets and those who will stop at nothing to keep them from being exposed. Leaving Devine with no idea who he can trust... and who wants him dead.

David Baldacci has been writing since childhood, when his mother gave him a lined notebook in which to write down his stories. From the first page, it captured me and took me for an amazing, thrilling ride. I love the lead character, as I did in the 6:20 Man, and when I thought that book could not be topped, along comes 'The Edge' and sent me on a heart racing adventure. Please let this character continue to come into my living room and sweep me up in adventure. Loved it!

The Edge, the next installment of 6:20 Man, is a story full of surprises, twists and turns with a memorable and likable character in ex-army Ranger Travis Devine.

I really enjoyed the 6:20 Man and grabbed this next book in the series to see what this intriguing character was going to do next. Travis has an analytical mind and can solve problems that others cannot. He is perfect to solve this mystery after a CIA agent is murdered. He stops at nothing to delve into the most dangerous situations.

It will be interesting to see where Baldacci takes this character in the next book and how much he will test his resilience and survival skills. A thoroughly enjoyable series.

Well written and captivating. Inspiring, showing that circumstances don’t have to define tomorrow. It’s not how many times we fall but that we get back up!
Reviewed in the United States on February 20, 2024
After a diversion into "I don't know where" with Simply Lies (the only Baldacci novel I have ever dropped down to three stars), he has hit it out of the park with The Edge, and the continued adventures of Travis Devine (The 6:20 Man).

This novel starts right out with action, and continues non-stop for 406 pages. The setting for most of the novel is a small town on the coast of Maine (Putnam). A CIA operative has been killed and Devine is sent to investigate as to whether her death is related to her work at the CIA, or to her family's past.

As usual Baldacci provides plenty of local color and has his well-developed characters play their parts in this novel with unexpected plot twists galore.

As with most current novels, there are a couple of grammatical errors. On page 85 the author writes "They did find her purse with her wallet in it. But no laptop or phone." Since the second sentence is written as a negative, the author should have used "nor" rather than "or". That sentence should have read "But no laptop nor phone."

Also on page 217 Baldacci writes "Load the body in the van and bring it to the funeral home" - since the person speaking was not at the funeral home, the word "take" should have been used, rather than the word "bring". You "take" something from one place to another, but you only "bring" something if it is being transported to your location. The sentence should have read "Load the body in the van and take it to the funeral home." Also, I would have used the word "into", rather in "in", but that is just to be more accurate.

Yes, these two grammatical errors are minor, but I expect better from an author such as David Baldacci.

Still a very enjoyable 5 star novel and certainly worth reading, but be sure to read The 6:20 Man before you read this one.

This one was very good.. nothing will ever be his series called the CAMEL CLUB, but this book was good because it had HEART and I really got involved with the characters. I liked it very much. It was worth spending the money. I love the 620 man is a good guy, even if he has to get rid of bad guys, loved it

The first book was good. This one is very very good. I won't give anything away like some reviewers (who seem to think that they have to prove they read the book), but instead tell you that this is a page turner, and nemesis to my circadian rhythms. There is no psyhco-drivel or goings-on about feelings (thank ghod), but characters are well developed based on backgrounds and actions. Great book, great author.

The one thing with Baldacci novels is consistency. They are all page turners with great detailed story lines and outstanding characters. Devine is always at the 'top of his game'. This book as with its predecessor the 6:20 Man, leaves the reader with great anticipation the next for the next novel.
