Our new website: FAQ

Thanks to feedback and generous support from members, VTDigger launched an updated website and a new logo in June 2023. You probably have questions — and we have answers!

Why did you redesign the website?

Accessibility and usability were at the forefront of this redesign. We hope it will be easier than ever for you to find the stories that matter the most on our website. We’re proud that this new design will better reflect the excellent quality of the journalism we produce.

What was the process?

We spent nearly 24 months researching, designing and developing a visual system that aligned with our member-supported journalism, VTDigger readers’ needs and industry best practices. Our new look is clean and scalable and, importantly, uses flexible systems that allow us to improve reader experience with ease.

What happened to the logo?

We set out to design a logo that blends our mission, storytelling and reach while being responsive and legible in every application. The original typewriter key logo is an important part of our history and was integral to the creative process that formed the new emblem that will carry us into our next chapter. (To go behind the scenes in that process, click here.) Our new look honors our past, strengthens our message and looks toward the future of our news coverage.

How was accessibility incorporated into the redesign?

Accessibility was at the forefront of our work, with all changes designed to increase clarity and usability for everyone who visits our site. Among them: We set out to make our site more comfortable to read by increasing overall typeface sizes and line height, and selecting a font family that is warm, open, legible and designed for optical sizing. Our new color palette is colorblind- and contrast-safe, and all photos will include alternative text (aka “alt text”) for blind and visually impaired readers. Importantly, the site features streamlined navigation tools and more language to explain our work.

Where do I find opinion content, including commentaries, letters to the editor and columns?

We have developed a new Opinion page at vtdigger.org/opinion. You can get there in two ways:

  1. From anywhere on the site: Go to the top-right corner of your screen and click the menu button (composed of three horizontal lines). Then click on “Opinion.”
  2. From the homepage: Scroll to the middle of the page until you see the horizontal block titled “Opinion.” (You will see the four most recent opinion posts in that block.) Click the blue button that says “Read more opinion” to visit the Opinion page.

We are no longer publishing editorial cartoons.

Email newsletters: Will I still get Daily Digger, Weekly Wrap, Final Reading and others?

Yes! If you are signed up for one or more of our email newsletters, you will continue to receive them. (If you are not signed up but would like to be, click here.)

Our newsletters will be rebranded under our new color scheme and design but will continue to deliver VTDigger’s journalism to your inbox.

Weekly Wrap, which goes out on Sunday mornings, will be slimmed down to feature the best and most important stories of the week, as selected by VTDigger editors.

Daily Digger, which goes out Mondays through Saturdays at about 5 a.m., will continue to feature all of our stories, opinion content and obituaries from the previous day.

What’s happening to VTDigger’s apps?

We know some of our readers rely on VTDigger’s Apple and Google Play apps for daily news coverage. Both apps will continue to be available and we expect to redesign them in a future phase of this project.

How do I support the redesign effort?

VTDigger’s redesign and rebranding reflects years of hard work by VTDigger staffers, including several who worked intensively on this project for the past six months. We could only do this work with the support of our members. To donate, click here. Thank you for your support!

I still have questions!

If you have feedback or further questions about how to use our new site, please email contact@vtdigger.org with “Redesign” in the subject line. We cannot respond to all feedback but will do our best to answer as many questions as possible. Thank you!
