The data we collect, why we collect it, and how long we store it

We do not collect any personal data by default on this website. If you have an account on this website, choose to leave a comment, or upload media to the website, we will however collect data related to this activity.

User accounts

If you set up, or is provided with, a user account for this website, we will collect the personal data that is provided by you in your user profile, such as your name, username, and email address. We will also store your IP address. This information is stored until it is updated, or the account is deleted.

All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information. They can also help you delete your account, should you need any assistance.

Comments

If you leave a comment on our site, we will collect the data shown in the comments form as well as your IP address and browser user agent string in order to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may also be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

Media

If you upload images to this website with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included, these data will be stored on the website and other visitors will be able to download and extract them. If you seek to avoid this, please only upload images without embedded location data (EXIF GPS), or refrain from uploading images.

Cookies

This website uses cookies. A cookie is a small text file that contains information that websites store on your computer. VIEWS does not save any personal information in cookies.

Visits to our log-in page and user activity

If you visit our website, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded after one month.

If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Comments

If you leave a comment on our site, you may opt-in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again if you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

Who we share your data with

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.
