Financial wellbeing app Wagestream has raised £17.5 million in a funding round joined by a British Business Bank subsidiary. BBB unit British Patient Capital has injected £7 million into Wagestream, with Lombard Odier Investment Managers and Northzone providing additional funding. Launched in 2018, Wagestream works with 1,000 employers in the UK, Spain and USA to enable 3million people - mainly shift & frontline workers - to access an interactive payslip, choose when to get paid, save for a "rainy day", save money on bills and get debt advice. Customers include Asda, Bupa, Burger King, Hilton and the NHS. The company will use the new funding to expand its range of services and become a ‘complete financial platform’ for low and middle-income workers. Shopping discounts, AI-powered financial coaching, and loans are all also in the pipeline. Peter Briffett, CEO, Wagestream, says: "We believe frontline workers deserve essential services and better financial futures. More than 1,000 employers agree. What does H2 have in store for us?* 🤔 Reading a couple of articles this morning which highlighted the UK, and London specifically, retained its place as the top destination for investment in financial services and that inflation will fall to its lowest levels in almost 3 years when figures are released later this week, I got to thinking... What are we going to see in in the second half of the year? There is an improving economic outlook, inflation is falling, and interest rates will almost certainly begin to fall very soon which will all positively impact confidence and investment decisions. Equally, we still have elections both in the UK and on a global stage to navigate this year creating an amount of uncertainty. Personally, although an amount of uncertainty will remain, the improving economic indicators and interest rate decreases will drive growth and a stronger H2. What's your view? #economy #2024 #H2

Right now, inflation is a bit high even though it dropped a little, so the Bank of England is being careful about lowering interest rates. This means loans are still pricey, which can make businesses think twice about spending on new projects or hiring more people. This could slow down job growth for a while. Everything getting more expensive, people will want higher wages, but companies might struggle to afford them because of the cost of borrowing. But, if inflation keeps dropping and the Bank feels confident to cut rates, we could see things picking up and more jobs popping up. Permanent Job Market - How does it look prior to the forthcoming elections? According to Reuters, LONDON, June 10 - A fall in permanent hiring by employers in Britain was at its least severe in more than a year in May and the recruitment market appears to be poised for a recovery. In a report that will be studied by the Bank of England as it weighs up when to start cutting interest rates, the Recruitment and Employment Confederation said permanent hiring has in fact fallen by the smallest amount in 14 months. "The jobs market looks like it's on its way back, with clear improvements over last month on most key measures," Britain's July 4 national election and the likelihood of interest rate cuts by the BoE later this year are likely to remove the hesitancy of employers about hiring, - REC Chief Executive Neil Carberry said.
