  • Today I will be joining Armor Defense for what will be an exciting discussion on the different threats posed by ransomware groups and hacktivists. Both big bang, disruptive events but with very different underlying motivations. We will dive into what these threats look like and more importantly how you prepare your organisation in case you end up having to deal with them. Ticking boxes is not going to be enough. Not knowing what your intolerable harm thresholds for key services are will likely bite you. Not putting enough pre-attack attention into comms strategies and templates will result in really bad PR. All these things and more we will dive into! Join us at 1400 BST, 1500 CEST, 1700 GST, 0900 EDT Link to register in comments!

Really looking forward to being part of this event next week in Belfast as part of the UK’s cyber first girls initiative. The event looks fantastic and I am very grateful to some of the wonderful women in cyber I know who have contributed their experiences for me to share in my talk. It’s great to see so many people and companies get behind this and inspire the new generation of cyber pros! Aflac Northern Ireland Victoria Logan Link in comments

  • The Complete Guide To Running a Cyber Security Tabletop Exercise 2024. Resilience has been stressed as a crucial component to security worldwide. Countries and regulators around the world are bringing in measures to encourage or enforce plans and playbooks are developed and tested. We have seen huge changes in expectations of organisations when it comes to resilience in the last 2 years alone from the FCA in the UK, the ECB in Europe, DFSA in the U.A.E, multiple US agencies, Singaporean authorities and the Australian Gov, just to name a few.   Download your copy https://lnkd.in/gc24vNwa

  • In recent years, the prevalence of cyber-attacks has underscored the critical need for organisations to have robust crisis communication plans in place. While much emphasis is often placed on technical responses to such incidents, the effectiveness of communication strategies can make a significant difference in mitigating the impact and managing public perception. Through our extensive experience in assisting organisations in developing and testing their crisis communication plans, we have identified common pitfalls and best practices that can enhance resilience in the face of cyber crises. This article presents a comprehensive checklist designed to evaluate and improve existing cyber crisis communication plans. Our goal is to provide actionable insights that enable organisations to develop responsible and resilient communication strategies tailored to the unique challenges posed by cyber incidents. By following the steps outlined in this checklist, organisations can enhance their preparedness, streamline communication processes, and mitigate potential reputational damage in the event of a cyber attack.

Our latest blog looking at some of the core elements to have in a crisis communication plan. Comms are one of the most crucial things to get right outside of the technical response to a cyber attack and they are also the most public mistake if you get it wrong. Time and time again we have seen bad communications causing havoc during an incident so it is well worth investing time to sit down with your comms team and go through the nature, extent and likely impact of the attacks your CTI indicates are most likely for your organisation. https://lnkd.in/ewT_8SK8

  • Here is a question for you. The SEC has passed new rules that will come in on the 15th Dec for publicly listed companies that require them to disclose risk management and governance information relating to cyber security in their annual filings. Also, whilst it isn't mandated per se, organisations will be expected to provide information on board proficiency in cyber security, training and testing and response plans too. Our question is this: Do you think this will make a material difference in the level of cyber security defence and readiness or will it just increase box ticking and workload for already stretched teams?

  • Next week I am back to Malta 🇲🇹 with my good friend Sarah Armstrong-Smith to both speak at the same event - Cyber Root by MITA! (Also Geoff White will be speaking there too so should be a fun event) I will be talking about Insider threats - intentional insiders not those folk who accidentally or perhaps even recklessly click on a phishing link. I will be looking at people who act with intent to commit fraud, theft or sabotage. That is rarely because they are bad people - they may have been manipulated, they may have been desperate or they may have been blackmailed. Regardless the damage can be severe and targeting humans always provides a good ROI. So I hope to see some of you there. I am even more excited to be returning to Malta and seeing some of that rare sunshine! Tickets 🎫: link in comments 💜 National Cybersecurity Coordination Centre MT

We talk a lot about the skills gap and diversity but one topic often missing from our discussions is that of cyber inequality. It is a problem that urgently needs discussing and solutions mooted. Ignoring not only causes harm for those impacted but will also likely come back to haunt us. I discuss 3 elements of cyber inequality and hope this generates some discussion, ideas and more attention as an issue we can all help solve. Hope you enjoy it (and the photos!)

It is the month of cyber awareness!! There are lots of really interesting things going on this month and not just for your "normal" employees as Daniel C. would call them. It can also be for us cyber folk. One initiative that I have enjoyed and got behind every year because it is always really well done and great fun is actually put together by CERT-SE. It is a fun CTF (it is in English too so no need to become fully proficient in Swedish!) and I recommend you give it a go! Here is the link to their 2023 CTF challenge! Enjoy! https://lnkd.in/eythFj6d
