More completely made-up adventures await Dick Turpin, now that Apple TV+ has renewed the Noel Fielding-led comedy for Season 2.
In The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin, Fielding (The Mighty Boosh, The Great British Bake Off) stars as “the most famous but least likely of highway robbers, whose success is defined mostly by his charm, showmanship and great hair.” Together with a gang of lovable rogues, Turpin rides the highs and lows of his new endeavors, including a brush with celebrity.
The Season 1 cast also included Ellie White, Marc Wootton, Hugh Bonneville, Duayne Boachie, Tamsin Greig, Asim Chaudhry, Joe Wilkinson, Mark Heap, Geoff McGivern, Michael Fielding, Kiri Flaherty, Samuel Leakey and Dolly Wells.
The six-episode first season was released throughout March of this year.
Ahead of Dick Turpin‘s debut, Fielding admitted to TVLine that, following the success of The Mighty Boosh comedy troupe (which he co-founded with Julian Barratt) and their eponymous BBC TV series, he found it “very difficult to do comedy,” noting, “I don’t think we realized how lucky we were until afterwards. They gave us complete creative freedom to do what we wanted.”
But eventually Fielding found fresh inspiration in Dick Turpin.
“It felt like the period costume aspect of this freed me up, and it sort of took it away from any comparisons to The Boosh,” he explained.
Good news! I really appreciate that Apple TV actually renews and supports their shows, something a lot of streamers don’t seem to do these days!
One of my favorite shows this year.
Yeah! I love this show! Honestly though, I didn’t think it would be renewed.
It was dumb but fun and sometimes that is exactly what you need.
They renew this show that I’ve never even heard of but not The Big Door Prize??
There’s a lot of factors that go into renewal decisions.
The Big Door Prize was likely a much more expensive show. I feel like given who stars on this series they can make more money in the UK and internationally from it too.
That just made my Fourth of July !
We found it much too funny, and much too clever, to have a chance of being renewed, even by Apple+. What a nice surprise.
The spirit of Monty Python runs loose throughout this series, and gave us more actual laugh-out-loud moments than anything else seen of late.
Thanks Apple+ ! Almost makes up for cancelling “Tokyo Vice”, but not quite.
P.S. I know Vice was dropped by MAX, not Apple but we’re still in mourning.
I wasnt sure about this show, but it was ridiculously fun and silly which you need sometimes to offset all the deep and heavy tv out there
Olé, let us pray!
