Will Trent‘s Ramón Rodríguez has heard your concerns about Will getting back together with Angie. “Some people say these two should not be together, and some people say these two are meant for each other because of what they’ve survived,” he tells TVLine.
When Special Agent Trent unlocks more of his childhood trauma involving Sleeveless Jack in Season 2, Episode 7, it’s Detective Polaski who’s there to pick up the pieces and console her on-again/off-again boyfriend with a kiss. As a fellow foster care survivor, no one has a better grasp of his pain.
“They have this bond because of what they’ve lived through and been through, and how they’ve been there for each other through it all,” Rodríguez explains in the video above. “That connects them in a really profound way… for better and for worse.”
After locking lips, Will acknowledges that they had a good reason for breaking up… but he can’t remember what it was. Coming up in Episode 8, “we’re going to see that relationship continue to build,” Rodríguez previews. “But the big question is: Can it build in a healthy way?”
Yet Will and Angie are feeling “optimistic” about the state of their relationship in Episode 8. “It’s feeling hopeful,” the actor says. “Maybe there is a way to work this, and maybe there is a way that we can commit to this. I think there is trepidation on both parts, and I think for anything to really work in a healthy manner, both need to be fully committed. They find themselves in a place where they’d at least like to attempt that commitment and… make it work.”
Just three episodes remain in Will Trent’s strikes-shortened Season 2 — and as Rodríguez tells it, things are about to get “really intense” and “really emotional.”
“In [Episode] eight, we get to see the culmination of this childhood trauma that Will has blocked from his memory,” he reveals. “[It] get put together — what that meant and signified — and it’s intense. And we do get a reprieve, we do get a moment to sort of come up for air, but very quickly [we] get pulled down under water again with a really intense twist and turn. I don’t know how much I can talk about it, but I will say it’s a really intense ending [to the season] that I don’t think people will see coming, and it’s a case that pays off in a really tough way.
“There’s a bit of a cliffhanger, without a doubt,” he continues. “Season 2, towards the end of it, as we’re putting together the whole idea of what happened through this childhood trauma — this flashback, this memory that he’d blocked out — there’s some things that [Will] gains, which is great, and there are some things that he loses, which is not great.”
Will Trent airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on ABC (and streams next day on Hulu). Watch Part 2 of our in-studio Q&A with Ramón Rodríguez, then drop a comment with your thoughts below.
I love this show and this episode was great. It was funny, scary, exciting, and emotional. I do have mixed feelings about Will getting back together with Angie, but I will wait to see how it plays out. I am happy this show was renewed.
Will and Angie have no chemistry together at all.
Sara!!
The Angie played by Erica Christensen YES.
The Angie of the books? NEVER.
go will, go will go
Interesting. I haven’t read the books but found myself really digging Will/Angie last season, which surprised me because I hadn’t been a fan of Erika Christensen in anything before. Then I looked up info about the books and saw that Will’s main romantic interest was someone else, so I tried not to get too invested. I was torn about this week’s scene, which felt like a relapse. But I’m intrigued to see that the character is different in the books compared to the show.
Will Trent is hands down my favourite network show. Love everything about it.
I resent every scene with Angie – don’t like the character and especially don’t like Christensen. Dead weight on an otherwise excellent series that should focus more on Faith and Amanda interacting with Will.
Erika Christianson is one of the primary reasons to watch the show. The entire cast is great but Erika stands out.
She’s a Scientology nutjob… that one fact is reason enough for me to dislike her. I refuse to separate the real person from the reel character when Scientology is in the mix! jmho
That is such a narrow, racist view of life. You have absolutely NO IDEA who this person is in real life, not really, no matter what group they belong to. You do you, but you don’t sound very “humble” in your “jmho”….
that’s not what racism is.
Technically you are right, because it is generally for a marginalized group but the definition for racism is: prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism by an individual, community, or institution against a person or people on the basis of their membership in a group.
But I’m not trying to be semantical in a TVline comment section but my statement still holds that it is a narrow view.
Love the two of them together
Love the show hope the romance continues hello season 3
I just love this show Will Trent. I really look forward to watching the show and all the characters. They did an excellent job in the casting. I love the that it is film in Georgia. God Bless the writers. crew and the amazing cast.
I haven’t watched all year because they weren’t together. That bond is not going away. They love each other deeply because of those shared experiences, they need a chance to make happy memories.
Will Trent is a great show and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did
Where is Sara? This will go completely away from the books if Will and Angie stay together. I hope it follows the books a bit more. Angie is way nicer in the TV version. I think it will be more interesting if it follows the book series more…
I’m so conflicted because Angie is such an awful person in the books but she’s so nice and supportive of Will in the series. I’ve read that Sara will be introduced at some point but with the change in the Angie character, I’m not sure how that will work out.
We all know the true love of Will’s life is Betty. ;)
I’m in love with Ramon Rodriguez and this show, not to mention that it’s shot in Atlanta where I’m from. Love looking to see if I recognize where they are. In this latest episode I was debating if it was one of 2 places where the wedding was taking place, but I finally figured it out and remembered all the times I was there.
Love this show. It keeps you coming back for. All the actors play their parts so well. The writers are doing a great job. Keep up the Great Work Everyone!!!
I wanted Will with Cricket 💞
Great show. The wedding was intense. Will’s partner accepts her sons new job..
Last scene with Angie was warm and touching. Betty made sure she was part of this last scene.
I would love to see their relationship work out! I believe anything is possible. They have been through thick and thin. It would be great for both of them to resolve their trauma together as they grow to a solid unit. Love wins!
So glad a person with a learning disability is highlighted as a successful and functioning member of society.. albeit with real difficulties.
On another note, please keep Angie and Will together ;no matter what even though Will arrested her, they can make it back together again, and look at the story they’ll be able to tell their children!!
