“You are Cute. You are Cunning. You are Fierce. You are Magical Kitties, and it’s time to Save the Day!”
Magical Kitties Save the Day is a family-oriented roleplaying game, where players take on the part of a kitty with magical powers, trying to save the day. That may seem unusual, based on the title, but there you have it.
The game itself is surprisingly simple, especially for a roleplaying game. Characters have three stats, Cute, Cunning, and Fierce. When they try to do something, they get a pool of six-sided dice based on the attribute they are using, plus any Talents or Powers they want to use. The Game Master will assign a number the player needs to roll to get a success, and depending on how many of the dice successfully make that number will determine how well the character succeeds at what they are doing and how the action moves forward as a result. If you’ve never played a roleplaying game, this is a great introduction. If you’re a parent who plays RPGs, this is a great introduction for your kids. If you’re simply an adult gamer, it’s magical kitties, what more do you need?
The pledge levels are simple, $15 (USD) will get you the PDF versions of all the books from the standard edition and the cards from the deluxe editions. $25 moves up to the standard edition, which will eventually be available through regular retail channels, and includes the core rules, a solo adventure, a regular adventure, plus basic dice and tokens. $50 upgrades you to the Deluxe edition, which will only be available to retailers via this campaign. The Deluxe edition adds a second adventure, upgrades the dice and tokens, and the majority of the campaign’s physical rewards will only be in the Deluxe edition. Above those three, there are some limited pledges for some fun experience.
Shipping prices aren’t listed on the main campaign page but do get calculated when you select a pledge level. Shipping outside the US is far from ideal, but the digital level is a great option to start with, while worldwide retailers get their copies through a different process.
This is a campaign that isn’t really about IF this project will happen. It’s more about making the best game possible, and funding the extras that otherwise would take a great deal more time to release. Atlas Games has a long history of publishing, and I’m pretty sure this new edition of Magical Kitties came about for more than just solid business reasons.
