While we know filmmaker/actor John Krasinski as the defacto architect of the “A Quiet Place” franchise, he wrote and directed the first two and conceived the story for the upcoming edition, “A Quiet Place: Day One,” that’s only half the story. While Krasinski rewrote the script and made it his own, the original idea, concept, and original screenplay for the post-apocalyptic science fiction horror genre came from writers turned directors Scott Beck and Bryan Woods. While Krasinski quickly took over the series (they remain exec producers). And while ‘AQP “launched their careers into another stratosphere, the pair are accomplished writer-directors, and their latest picture is the creepy horror “Heretic” for A24.

“Heretic” looks like a very contained three-hander and stars Hugh Grant, subverting his usually charming role, and rising stars Chloe East, known for “The Fabelmans,” and Sophie Thatcher, who has broken out in recent years with roles on “Yellowjackets” and “The Book of Boba Fett.”
The spine-chilling psychological horror centers on two young Mormon missionaries (Thatcher and Eastman) who attempt to convert a man (Hugh Jackman), but this chance meeting soon turns out to be far more dangerous than they could have ever anticipated.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Two young missionaries are forced to prove their faith when they knock on the wrong door and are greeted by a diabolical Mr. Reed (Hugh Grant), becoming ensnared in his deadly game of cat-and-mouse.
While Beck and Woods didn’t break out as names until “A Quiet Place,” they already have an impressive CV and have written and directed the supernatural thriller “Nightlight” (2015), the slasher film “Haunt” (2019), and the science fiction action thriller “65” (2023) which starred Adam Driver.
The “Heretic” looks really claustrophobic and seemingly gives Hugh Grant the chance to shine in an atypically sociopathic role. “The Heretic” will be released in theaters on November 15, 2024, via A24. Watch the first trailer below.
