Winning the lotto is supposed to be a great day. But apparently, in the near future, all that means is that you get a death sentence. At least that’s my takeaway from the trailer for the new film, “Jackpot!

As seen in the trailer, “Jackpot!” tells the story of a young woman in 2030 who wins the lottery and scores the biggest jackpot yet. However, there’s a wrinkle. There’s also a rule that says anyone with a losing ticket can kill her to take over as winner. So, winning the lotto puts a huge target on your back. Thankfully, a big muscly guy is there to help.

The film stars Awkwafina, John Cena, Ayden Mayeri, Donald Elise Watkins, Sam Asghari, Murray Hill, and Simu Liu. Paul Feig directs the film, based on a script by Rob Yescombe.

“Jackpot!” arrives on Prime Video on August 15. You can watch the trailer below.

Here’s the synopsis:

In the near future, a ‘Grand Lottery’ has been newly established in California – the catch: kill the winner before sundown to legally claim their multi-billion dollar jackpot. When Katie Kim (Awkwafina) moves to Los Angeles, she mistakenly finds herself with the winning ticket. Desperate to survive the hordes of jackpot hunters, she reluctantly joins forces with amateur lottery protection agent Noel Cassidy (John Cena) who will do everything in his power to get her to sundown in exchange for a piece of her prize. However, Noel must face off with his slick rival Louis Lewis (Simu Liu), who also seeks to collect Katie’s commission at all costs.
