I need a little more clarification on the objective of the deck. Are you wanting a deck with the longest list of combos, a deck with a large number of completely unique combos that you want to draw naturally, or a deck with a large number of completely unique combos and you will tutor the last piece? Each different style is going to require different combos.
Without any specific guidance on how you want to build the deck I am just going to list some of my favorites. I'll just list off cards, LMK if you need an explanation for any.
-
Thopter Foundry/Sword of the Meek/Krark-Clan Ironworks(or Ashnod's Altar)
-
Melira, Sylvok Outcast/Sac outlet/Murderous Redcap (or Kitchen Finks)
-
Mikaeus, the Unhallowed/Triskelion (or Walking Ballista and a sac outlet)
-
Yawgmoth, Thran Physician/Blood Artist/two undying creatures
Metroid_Hybrid on Maxing out pre-Modern cEDH

I have a single, serious cEDH deck built around Yawgmoth, Thran Physician— but with a single, important caveat: EVERY card in the deck that is not explicitly part of the central combo has an “Old” border; that is, either legitimately has a pre-Modern (pre-8ED) printing, or at least received a “Timeshifted” printing after the fact..
But with the printing of Hancock, Ghoulish Mayor, and the recent “Timeshifted” reprinting of Toxic Deluge, I am compelled to asked the T/O community for the first time in over 3 years……
How can I max-out the competitive potential of this particular deck, while still maintaining the said “pre-Modern” prerequisite?

The only possibilities that I can think of…
-
Add Triskelion and/or Sling-Gang Lieutenant as back-up WinCons w/ Mikaeus, the Unhallowed
-
Add Grim Monolith as the final cEDH mana rock...

The apocalypse (Sheoldred)

Yay, darkness. Here are some thoughts that might synergize with your deck:
- With Sheoldred feeding off of card drawing, you might consider things that speed up card drawing. These can be double-edged swords, but Howling Mine, Font of Mythos, Teferi's Puzzle Box, Memory Jar, and the like might be worth considering. Reliquary Tower may also not be a bad idea.
- Rather than Infernal Darkness, why not Contamination? You can also get an engine with things like Bitterblossom, Dreadhorde Invasion, and Reassembling Skeleton (or other recurring creatures, e.g. Bloodghast) to make your opponents cry even more.
- Koskun Falls could also be another way to tax your opponents.
- You could also go with Wound Reflection to double up on the suffering. Things like Kokusho, the Evening Star and Yawgmoth, Thran Physician are must-plays in any deck I have with black, and considering Gray Merchant of Asphodel might also be worth your time.

Death and Taxes

Apart from a spate of tutors of varying price points (Vampiric Tutor, Mystical Tutor, Demonic Tutor, Entomb, etc.), here are some thoughts of varying degrees of evilness/making sure your opponents "love" you forever:
- Kokusho, the Evening Star is, for me, a must-include in any black-containing EDH deck, especially with how its life-drain effect scales with the number of players. You could also add an Archfiend of Despair and/or Wound Reflection to multiply suffering, Archangel of Thune to make your board bigger with every passing turn (or life-gain occurrence), and/or Boon Reflection for more life-gain fun!
- Some additional reanimation in addition to what you already have could be handy. For this, I would suggest Karmic Guide; Junji, the Midnight Sky; Reanimate; and/or Necromancy.
- If you have access to it, Yawgmoth, Thran Physician would be super-handy: on-demand sacrifice, not to mention card draw and weakening your opponents' boards.
- Some more land fetch/land thinning tools, like Expedition Map; Urza's Cave; Prismatic Vista; and Marsh Flats, might help. Similarly, Field of Ruin and Demolition Field serve double-duty of land fetch and land destruction for problematic lands. Alternately, some more multi-lands like Reflecting Pool, Mana Confluence, and other pain lands could help you in early game stages.

You know, this is exactly the kind of thing that I really like in magic. Not necessarily the format that this makes, but just wotc doing an event just because it's fun for players, that's something I haven't seen for a good bit : ) I could definitely build something fun out of what I've got laying around and have a good time with this.
That being said, I think it would make a terrible format, but a great event. Imagine somebody playing 5 color Heliod, Sun-Crowned and Walking Ballista combo that could hold up Fierce Guardianship and Force of Will to protect the combo. Or Yawgmoth, Thran Physician with an undying partner for a command zone combo.
I like that it's a fun event, it's a theme that just works great for me, and I don't know, I think it's kind of nice to see wotc saying to players, fun is playing the game, after so long of them saying, fun is buying the game.

The most compact Hulk line is going to be Mikaeus, the Unhallowed and Walking Ballista which requires you to add only Protean Hulk and Walking Ballista both of which are decent outside of the combo. The combo does require a sacrifice outlet, and I was having trouble thinking of how to grab one since the combo already uses all 6 CMC of the tutor and I am most familiar with the combo in Abzan where you get Karmic Guide. Luckily DreadKhan supplied the missing piece, if you add in Activated Sleeper you can tutor the Sleeper and Viscera Seer to provide the sacrifice outlet.
Combo I am describing in case you are not familiar with Mike and Ballista. Mikaeus, the Unhallowed gives non-human creatures +1/+1 and undying, so the Ballista enters as a 1/1 and doesn't die. Sacrifice Walking Ballista and it comes back with a +1/+1 counter. Remove the counter from Ballista and deal 1 damage to an opponent. Repeat loop of sacrificing Ballista and removing counter until all opponents are dead.
You are also already running Yawgmoth, Thran Physician, so you can add in a few low cost undying creatures and get that combo with low opportunity cost. Young Wolf and Butcher Ghoul are the easiest to cast ones since they only have a single colored pip. Treacherous Pit-Dweller, Geralf's Messenger, and Strangleroot Geist are perfectly defensible options too, though the pit dweller is more all-in on having a way to sacrifice for value before the trigger to give an opponent control resolves and as such I think isn't a great fit here.
In general you can also up the power level of the deck by adding tutors. The "good" ones you are not running are Worldly Tutor, Grim Tutor, and Vampiric Tutor.

mooffalosystema i have played a load of competitive mill, winning tourney with it, and know full-well the ins-and-outs of competitive play.
If you do the math on Mind Funeral you’ll find that it is absolutely terrible when compared to almost all other 2-and-3 mana mill spells. There’s a very good reason no competitive builds ever run that card.
Indiscriminate discard is always worse than being able to target and remove the card that actually poses a threat. There will be a bunch of games where Inquisition is only able to grab the cards the opponent doesn’t really card about. Not being able to grab a Sheoldred, the Apocalypse or Scion of Draco or Murktide Regent or Yawgmoth, Thran Physician is a massive mistake when these are all very-commonly seen threats.
Your assessment of Lazotep Plating baffles me. It only temporarily stalls some combo decks, and feels negligible anywhere else. I think Storm is the only deck that would ever need to be cautious of this card, and nobodies playing Storm atm anyway cause it’s bad. If your local playgroup somehow validates this cards existence, it’s still only a sideboard card at-best (and even then, a terrible one - there’s sooo many better options!).

RufusTheGrufus thanks, mate! I absolutely appreciate your insight!! Those are some spicy suggestions. I really like Ondu Spiritdancer. I hadn't considered her! I did have a number of your suggestions in my original 150+ card pile I started building this deck from.
I think Loxodon Gatekeeper and Yawgmoth, Thran Physician are both in spirit of the deck and would make great additions, as well. I love playing cards that absolutely make my opponents roll their eyes!! Lol.
I actually have a Syr Konrad, the Grim deck, as well. I kept him out, out of principle. He does absolutely fit perfectly, though!
Thanks again for the great suggestions! Feel invited to check out my other decks and leave any suggestions you feel, as well! I enjoy your feedback!
